Who won the college basketball championship last year?
Who won last year’s NCAA Tournament and went home with the college basketball championship? There won’t be a repeat title this year.
College basketball, unfortunately, didn’t have a champion in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but March Madness returned a year later to bestow a new crown.
The tournament went off without a hitch (mostly) and 68 teams battled it out for the ultimate glory.
But it’s been a long year, so who won the championship in the end?
Baylor won the college basketball championship last year
The Baylor Bears were the No. 1 seed in the South Region and rolled through the NCAA Tournament field for the championship.
They beat No. 16 Hartford, No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 5 Villanova, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 6 Houston and No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga by an average margin of 15 points on their way to the trophy. They may not have been the biggest of the favorites going into the tournament, but they left no doubt in the end.
The final over the Bulldogs was an emphatic showing ending in an 86-70 victory.
It was the program’s first-ever national championship and Jared Butler was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four.
None of the 2021 Final Four teams are still alive in the tournament this year, so it’ll be a brand new set of contenders to watch.
It’s almost time for the Bears to pass the baton to the next title winners.
