Looking back at the biggest comeback in the national championship game history of college basketball to see the largest deficit overcome to win a title.

In the first half of the men’s college basketball national championship game on Monday night between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Kansas Jayhawks, the former looked to be on their way to running away with the game.

After a tight first 10 minutes or so of action, the Tar Heels started to pull away — and then kept pulling away. They got up by as many as 16 points over the Jayhawks and went into the locker room for halftime up 40-25.

But in the second half, Kansas came out firing while UNC looked all out of sorts. And before the halfway mark of the second half, the game was tied. That had fans wondering about the biggest comeback in the history of the national championship game.

Biggest comeback in national championship history

If the Jayhawks were to pick up the win on Monday night, it would indeed be the biggest comeback ever for the college basketball title game.

The previous mark was set back in 1963 by the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers. They trailed by 15 points against Cincinnati in the title game before going on a big comeback, forcing overtime and then winning by a score of 60-58 in the extra frame.

Certainly, the fans in Lawrence are hoping that record falls in New Orleans in the year 2022.
