UNC basketball star Armando Bacot was taken out late in the national championship game with an injury. But was the Superdome floor to blame?

Armando Bacot was a dominant force for the North Carolina Tar Heels all season long, even tying the college hoops record for most double-doubles in a season ever. And that continued against Kansas in the national championship game.

Unfortunately, with the game hanging in the balance after a miraculous Jayhawks comeback, Bacot was trying to drive to the rim when he rolled the same ankle he did against Duke, sending him to the ground in pain and, ultimately, taking him out for the rest of the game.

It was an extremely tough way to see a player of his caliber and impact leave the floor. And it turns out, the temporary court at the Caesars Superdome might’ve been the reason for the injury.

Armando Bacot injury: Did Superdome court cause the turned ankle?

One hawkeyed Twitter user noticed that it appears that one of the boards on the court shifted when Bacot planted his right foot, causing the ankle to roll and, thus, causing the injury that forced him out of action in the most crucial moments of the game.

And if you think that’s just one random instance, as UNC tried for a miracle buzzer-beater to force overtime on an inbounds play, Brady Maneky also appeared to get tripped up on a similar area of the floor when there was really no reason for that to happen.

Is the floor the reason that Bacot had to leave the game? The video evidence suggests that there’s at least something to look into further. In any case, it should give UNC fans something to get angry over once they process the pain of this horrific title game loss.
