The Denver Nuggets rainbow jerseys are an iconic look but some fans watching the playoffs are wondering why the team has adopted that look.

The NBA Playoffs always put more teams in front of more eyes, the Denver Nuggets being matched up with the Golden State Warriors in the first round included.

Because of that, there are some NBA fans who haven’t been fully locked into the league this season but are dialing it up for the postseason. And when they look at the Nuggets, there is a question about the rainbow print on some of their jerseys.

In the day and age of multiple alternate uniforms, many that the Denver Nuggets wear have some sort of rainbow incorporated, be it on the side of the torso, the stitching, the middle torso, or otherwise.

But the question remains: Why is the rainbow a part of the Nuggets’ jerseys?

Why do the Denver Nuggets have rainbow jerseys?

The simplest answer is that the design pays homage to the history of the franchise. From 1981-1993, Denver sported the rainbow front-and-center on their jerseys with what is referred to as the “rainbow skyline” jerseys, the result of a fan design contest that they wore for over a decade.

Beyond that, the rainbow on the Denver Nuggets jerseys is also a nod to the city and the franchise’s long relationship with supporting diversity in the community and area.

All in all, it fits and gives the Nuggets a unique look and aspect of their jerseys that any fan can recognize.
