Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland smashed a bat on the roof of the team’s dugout after getting pulled from the July 13 game against the San Diego Padres.

Recently, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale went viral for going ballistic in the hallways after a poor outing in a rehab start with Triple A Worcester. Well now, there is a new starting pitcher who is trending on social media following their outburst.

Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland started the team’s July 13 game against the San Diego Padres, but was pulled in the fifth inning after failing to record an out in the first three batters faced. As he was sitting in the dugout, Freeland grabbed a baseball bat and began smashing it against the roof.

Rockies: Kyle Freeland destroys dugout roof after getting pulled

Freeland took a page out of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner’s playbook, who infamously smashed his bat against the dugout roof back in 2019.

Freeland entered the fifth inning with Colorado holding a 5-2 lead. That since evaporated after he surrendered a solo home run to Trent Grisham, a double to Ha-Seong Kim, and an RBI single to Jake Cronenworth in the first three at-bats. That was when he was pulled from the contest by manager Bud Black.

Even though he was pulled, he was credited for the game-tying run after Cronenworth scored on a single by Jorge Alfaro.

Freeland recorded three strikeouts and three walks, while surrendering the aforementioned five earned runs on six hits in four innings of work.

Luckily for Freeland, the Rockies won 8-5. Colorado broke the 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on RBI doubles by Jose Iglesias and Randal Grichuk, and an RBI single by C.J. Cron.
