Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will both see first-team reps on Saturday afternoon.
NFL (pre)season is officially here.
The Chicago Bears will host the Kansas City Chiefs in their first preseason contest. For KC, it will be their first game without Tyreek Hill, in a (semi) new-look offense as a result. Expect Mahomes to try and spread the ball around A LOT, especially in the preseason, to try and get a feel for how his targets on the outside will adjust. Namely, Mahomes needs to know who he can trust.
As for the Bears, Justin Fields is learning a new system altogether. Chicago fired an entire regime in Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace. Replacing them will be Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles. Same first names, different last names. Ideally for Fields and Co., this round will be slightly different.

Is Patrick Mahomes playing in preseason?
Mahomes, unlike most quarterbacks, values the preseason and the possible lessons he can learn prior to each season.
“Yeah, I like to get in there and I like to get hit like one time,” Mahomes explained. “Once you get hit one time you kind of see what it is to get hit again as a quarterback. I feel like after that you’re good to go.”
Is Justin Fields playing in preseason?
For now, Fields is expected to play in Chicago’s first preseason game. The starters are likely to be in action for 15-20 plays, per Eberflus.
