Chiefs veterans who could be cut: Chad Henne

Henne would be the definition of a surprise cut, as he’s currently listed as the backup quarterback on Kansas City’s depth chart. However, the rise in play from third stringer Shane Buechele has to worry the longtime Patrick Mahomes backup.

The Michigan Man is getting up there in age, and while he’s still stable when called upon, a younger option like Buechele has to be an attractive fit for Eric Bieniemy’s offense.

FanSided’s Matt Verderame weighed in on this possibility earlier in the week:

"“While Henne is the favorite to back up Patrick Mahomes come Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, it’s also possible the Chiefs decide to move on. If they do, they would be eating his $2 million salary, which could cause general manager Brett Veach to try and put Buechele on the practice squad if he can sneak him through.”"

Henne is 37 years old. He’s made bank as a backup in the NFL, living a life many of us can only dream of. It’s nearly time to move on, though this would be considered a relative shocker.
