Toasty Buns: 5 college football coaches on hot seat entering 2022
By Scott Rogust
2. Bryan Harsin, Auburn
The Auburn Tigers opted to move on from longtime coach Gus Malzahn midway through the 2020 season. After a lengthy search, the university decided to hire Bryan Harsin from Boise State as their next head coach. One season was enough to put him on the hot seat in 2022.
Harsin led the team to a 6-7 record in his first season with the Tigers. Besides the losses on the field, the program saw a bunch of coaches and players leave. All of that dysfunction in his first year was not a good sign for Harsin, and there was talk about whether he would be removed from his position.
Ultimately, Auburn decided to keep him.
As if Harsin’s status was not already questionable, there was the news that broke before Week 0 that athletic director Allen Greene departed from Auburn. Greene was the one who hired Harsin, and now that he is out, it could mean that Harsin’s exit could happen once things go off the rails in 2022.
