NFL rumors: 5 teams that should hope Jalen Carter’s stock keeps falling
By John Buhler
The Las Vegas Raiders could afford to take a chance on him picking at No. 7
Of the teams picking in the back-half of the top 10, the Las Vegas Raiders would be the boldest team to draft Carter at No. 7. They have a lot of holes to fill on their roster, as Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler try to build Patriots West in Sin City. However, the signing of Jimmy Garoppolo may indicate that the Silver and Black are not 100 percent taking a quarterback with their No. 7 pick.
Ideally, you would have Carter being a dominant force in the trenches with pass-rushing phenom Maxx Crosby playing off him. In theory, this tandem could help the Raiders stake their claim in the AFC West that has long belonged to the arch rival Kansas City Chiefs. However, Las Vegas is a great place to get in trouble, and the Raiders know all too well what happens when a star speeds…
So with that in mind, the Raiders are probably the worst fit for Carter should he fall outside of the top five. I don’t really trust the organization’s culture top-down to allow him to keep his head on a swivel and be the best player he absolutely can be. Conversely, Carter’s brand as a bit of a heel could be accentuated playing for the NFL‘s rebel franchise. The question is if they will roll the dice.
The Raiders would need the Cardinals, Seahawks and Lions to all pass on Carter to even draft him.
