Breaking down The Masters leaderboard after the first round of play with Viktor Hovland tied for the lead by Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka.

Once the first tee shot is hit at The Masters, it’s time to throw all pre-conceived notions out of the window — or at least some of them. Think Viktor Hovland can’t contend at Augusta National because of his short game? Well, he shot a bogey-free 65. Think Jon Rahm can’t four-putt for double-bogey on the first hole and lead after the first round still? He did. Think the LIV Golf guys can’t compete in a major? Brooks Koepka would like a word.

It was a wild day at The Masters in the first round with what is forecasted to be the best day of weather and players were ready to take advantage. 36 players finished the first round under par and the aforementioned trio set the pace by putting themselves atop The Masters leaderboard at -7 after 18 holes.

So what does the rest of the leaderboard look like? Let’s take a look at the top and some other notables after Thursday’s first round.

That’s the Top 20 after the first round at Augusta National. Some other notables on the leaderboard start with Tiger Woods (+2) at T54. Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay, Phl Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Max Homa, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and even 62-year-old Fred Couples are all T26 at -1. We also have Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood at T37 and even-par. Bryson Dechambeau is at +2 and T54 while Bubba Watson had a bad day, shooting +5 and sitting at T78.

With 18 holes until the cut and 54 holes before a winner is crowned, though, there’s still a lot of golf to be played at The Masters. We’ll have to see who can come in and make some noise, who falls back from top of the pack, and where all the drama will come from.
