The Chiefs didn’t get Odell Beckham Jr. What should be their next course of action?

The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t vocally in the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes this offseason, yet seeing him sign with another AFC team may rub the Super Bowl champs the wrong way.

All head coach Andy Reid said of OBJ was that he was a “good” football player. No sugar coating, no rear-kissing, just the cold hard truth. Was he good enough to command a one-year, $18 million deal? To at least a few teams, definitely not.

It seems as though Beckham was chasing the money more than the clout as he ultimately decided to join the Baltimore Ravens on a lucrative deal, and he has the chance to immediately become the team’s WR1 this upcoming season.

The Jets were never going to pay that much for Aaron Rodgers’ friend. The Chiefs were also never going to pay that much.

The dream of a Patrick Mahomes-Beckham link-up may be dashed (for now), yet Kansas City can get much more bang for its buck with these three available wideouts.

Here are three wide receivers the Chiefs should pursue after missing on OBJ.

No Odell Beckham Jr, no problem: Chiefs should add WR Chris Moore

Houston Texans wideout Chris Moore just enjoyed the most productive season of his seven-year NFL career, but that’s not the only reason the Chiefs should take a serious look at this target.

Moore, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, played with Baltimore for five years and while he struggled to make a significant impact on the Ravens, one could argue Baltimore’s offensive scheme didn’t really allow wideouts to thrive.

He then spent a two-year stint on one of the worst offenses in the league in the Texans. Houston doesn’t even know how to tank properly, that’s how poorly run the franchise is.

Moore only has a handful of starts throughout his career, but in seven games last year he posted 48 catches for 548 yards and two touchdowns. And that was with some pretty mediocre quarterback play.

On the Chiefs, Moore can thrive in Andy Reid’s pass-happy scheme as a mid-level target for Mahomes who won’t break the bank. Moore proved his value when Texans’ Nico Collins and Brandin Cooks went down last season and boasts a good balance of experience, talent, and budget value — he signed two separate one-year deals with the Texans in the last two years and could ink another cheap one with the Chiefs this offseason.

Don’t sleep on this underrated wideout in 2023.
