Texas Rangers fans worried that ace pitcher Jacob deGrom wouldn’t be able to make his next start got good news from manager Bruce Bochy.

The Texas Rangers prioritized bolstering their starting rotation this offseason, and their biggest get was none other than former New York Mets aced and two-time Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom.

After a horrific first start of the season, deGrom settled in. But on the Apr. 17 game against the Kansas City Royals, deGrom exited a potential no-hitter due to right wrist soreness. There was fear that deGrom could miss his next scheduled start because of the injury.

Rangers fans, you can breath a sigh of relief.

On Saturday, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy revealed that deGrom is set to pitch in his scheduled start on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics.

After the Royals game, deGrom told the media that the soreness began early in that game, and it got progressively worse. So instead of changing up his mechanics, he and the Rangers decided to remove him to avoid a potentially more serious injury. One day later, deGrom said that he expected to throw in his next scheduled start.

Through his first four starts of the season, deGrom recorded a 3.48 ERA, a 0.871 WHIP, 32 strikeouts and three walks over 20.2 innings.

deGrom is set to face off against the Oakland Athletics, who are one of the worst teams in all of baseball right now. With a 4-16 record, the Athletics have a team batting average of .226 (fourth-lowest in MLB) and an OPS of .659 (third-lowest). The team also has the third-fewest hits in all of baseball with 150 as of this writing.

It is an extremely favorable matchup for deGrom, as he looks to continue to keep the Rangers at the top of the NL West standings.
