For the second consecutive week, the Louisville Cardinals will be without starting quarterback Will Gardner. Freshman Reggie Bonnafon will get his second career start against the Syracuse Orange on Saturday, head coach Bobby Petrino announced on Wednesday. However, he did note that there is a chance that Gardner could be out there in an emergency situation.

“There’s a chance he’ll be available,” Louisville coach Bobby Petrino said on Wednesday’s ACC teleconference. “Reggie will start the game. Will was out there last night and did more in practice. Reports from the training room this morning was there was limited swelling so we get a chance to get him out today at practice again.”

Gardner originally injured himself during the win over FIU two weeks ago, suffering an injury to his left knee that knocked him out of the contest in the third quarter.

Last week in the win over Wake Forest, Bonnafon threw for 206 yards and added in 46 on the ground. Still, the fact is the Louisville offense has struggled, something Petrino also made light of to the media.

“Offensively, we’ve just struggled,” Petrino said. “We haven’t had the consistency that we need to be able to execute and go score points on a consistent basis.”
