Chicago Bulls‘ star point guard Derrick Rose has drawn heat from a Chicago newspaper due to sitting out two of the first four NBA games this season with sprained ankles.

More from Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are one of the teams that many expect to content to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals this season, but they need their star point guard to stay healthy. Derrick Rose has suffered two season-ending injuries in the last three years, and he is already beginning to have some health issues this season. He has

sprained both of his ankles

and the Bulls have played it safe and kept him on the bench over the last couple of games.

Rose originally said the ankle injury wasn’t that serious.

Obviously the Chicago media is overreacting to Rose sitting out two games early in the season and they have put the star point guard on blast. Playing Rose this early in the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves or Orlando Magic would be incredibly dumb and would put him at risk to get hurt even more in a game that isn’t much of a risk.

Keeping Rose healthy even if he’s good to play is the top priority right now for the Bulls, and that is why they are handling him so carefully this season.

Rose has played in two games so far this season, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. When he comes back, he will continue getting his feet back under him and getting used to NBA basketball once again. He looked very healthy (or as center Joakim Noah says, he’s looked liked “the fastest man on the court”) in his first two games, but getting his timing back is going to take a few games.

Chicago needs to stay patient with him and realize that playing him this early in the season would put his health in even more jeopardy. Rose will be back in the near future, but the Bulls are doing the right thing by keeping him out until he is legitimately at 100 percent. They are also going to continue to limit his minutes, along with the minutes of Noah, who also missed Tuesday’s victory over the Magic.

Rose has been downgraded to questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Expect the newspapers to turn around and begin showing Rose love when he’s back leading the team throughout the second half of the regular season this year.
