A.J. Green just wouldn’t go down on his way to an 80-yard touchdown catch

A.J. Green and the Cincinnati Bengals had been in a dogfight with the Baltimore Ravens all day. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Ravens had clawed their way back and held a 17-14 lead over the Bengals. Green just wasn’t going to stand for that—or rather he wasn’t about to go down when he had a chance to change that.

Green burned the Baltimore coverage as he does with most secondaries that try to contain him and as he’d done several times in this game. However, it was the run after the catch that was truly incredible. Jimmy Smith converged on him, as did safety Will Hill, but Green threw Smith off of him and into Hill while also spinning. After that, he turned on the jets once more on his way across the goal line for the 80-yard reception:

That long and hugely important touchdown gave Green nine receptions for 220 yards on the day while also obviously giving Cincinnati the lead. Green is often overlooked when talking about the elite receivers in the NFL, but all it takes is plays like this to remind everyone that he unquestionably deserves a spot in that conversation.
