Clint Dempsey named Man of the Match in USA’s win over Ghana (Photo)

On Monday night, Clint Dempsey helped to spark the United States to victory in their 2014 World Cup opener over Ghana.

Dempsey stormed down the pitch in the opening seconds to score the first goal of the game just 29 seconds in.

It was the quickest goal ever recorded by a USA player in World Cup history and the fifth fastest goal in World Cup history.

After the game, fans voted Dempsey as the Man of the Match presented by Budweiser for his gritty performance that included battling through a broken nose that he suffered in the first half after taking a boot to the face.

There were 90,818 votes cast following the USA vs. Ghana game to name the winner. Just fourteen games into the World Cup, there have already been more than 1 million votes placed during Man of the Match voting.
