The Cincinnati Bengals have been, in recent years, the one of the teams to beat in the AFC North division. While the team has fundamentally gotten better on both sides of the ball, questions have lingered surrounding the future of quarterback Andy Dalton, the teams 2011 2nd round selection.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

Prior to 2011, the Bengals had two playoff appearances in twenty seasons, 2009 a wild-card loss to the New York Jets and 2005 a wild-card loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dalton was a starter for the Bengals in his rookie season and led the team to a 3rd place finish in the division with a 9-7 record. The team made the playoffs. In 2012 the team tied with Baltimore for first place with a 10-6 record and last season the team outright won the division at 11-5.

Each of Dalton’s seasons with Cincinnati has resulted in two things, a playoff birth and a playoff loss resulting in many wondering aloud if Dalton is the answer to the teams long term future.

If you ask Bengals star wide-receiver A.J. Green, the answer is undoubtedly yes. Green believes that not only is Dalton the right quarterback, he recently told media that he didn’t want to catch passes from anyone else, but he also believes that a new extension for the quarterback could come as early as the start of this season.

"“We came in together. That’s my guy. He helped me where I am. I helped him and we took the Bengals to a different level,” Green told the teams official website. “The Bengals were losing a lot before we came. I feel like we turned it around. I know they know he’s the guy … I feel like they’re going to get something done before the season starts.”"

The Cincinnati Bengals will face 11 teams who have made the playoffs in the last three seasons.
