The game started off fast for Manchester United, but they faltered on early chances in the first half. In the fifth minute, Javier Hernandez missed a wide open goal on a wonderful cross from a teammate. Only minutes later Liverpool was granted a penalty which captain Steven Gerrard sunk in the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead into half time.

In the second half it was all Manchester United as they dominated Liverpool for the entirety of the 45 minutes. First Rooney scored the equalizer in dramatic fashion, and just two minutes later Juan Mata sunk in a wonderful shot to give his team the 2-1 lead.

From then on, Liverpool seemed defeated and Manchester United pounced. In the 88th minute, Jesse Lingard finished off the game with his dagger of a goal. Lingard benefited from a tricky pass from Shinji Kagawa, and was able to sink the shot with his right foot.

The tournament win will certainly give Manchester United a ton of momentum going into their regular season in three weeks.
