Blessed with unique size and athleticism, Andrew Wiggins appears to have the tools to be a superstar in the league. However, during his lone season at Kansas he appeared to be content playing a background role to Joel Embiid. Even Wiggins’ former head coach, Bill Self, questioned if Andrew Wiggins would ever accept the alpha-dog mentality you need to be a shining star.
Now it appears more questions about Wiggins’ game are being discussed as Nate Duncan doesn’t believe the forward will ever be an ‘amazing scorer’.
"The Wolves have more established veterans than you think in Martin, Pekovic, Young, etc. I also don’t think Wiggins will be an amazing scorer anyway in his career."
To be an elite scorer you often need to be a bit selfish (in a good way). Usually what separates the All-Star talent from the volume scorer is efficiency, though you wouldn’t think that would be much of an issue for Wiggins considering he’ll get a number of his points from dunks.
Still, it’s difficult to suggest what Wiggins will or will not become considering he’s yet to play in an NBA game. There’s no doubt he has a skill set that can make him an All-Star level player and potential leading scorer on his team, though the most looming question appears to be if that’s what Andrew Wiggins wants to become.
He says it is, so it should be interesting to see how Wiggins’ rookie season plays out. Will he quiet the doubters or will he only make their chatter louder?
