It has been quite the offseason for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

They finally parted ways with power forward Kevin Love (and forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and point guard Alexey Shved) and landed the last two number one overall picks, swingman Andrew Wiggins (2014) and Anthony Bennett (2013). They also received forward Thaddeus Young from the Philadelphia 76ers as well.

Their youth movement isn’t in full swing – the Timberwolves still have center Nikola Peković and point guards Ricky Rubio and J.J. Barea, among others.

According to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and AM 1500 ESPN, the Timberwolves are still looking to deal Barea and are open to buying him out.

If the Timberwolves haven’t been able to deal Barea by now, they may best served by hanging on to him and waiting to see if injuries crop up before the trade deadline unless they’re dead set on getting rid of him.

Barea went for 8.4 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.7% from the field, 34.7% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free throw line. Barea, a former Northeastern Huskies’ standout, began his career with Dallas Mavericks back in 2006 and spent the first five years of his career there, playing a major role for the Mavericks when they won the NBA Title in 2011. In his eight-year career,  he’s averaged 8.3 points, 3.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, 34.7% from three and 79.8% from the charity stripe.
