The Bears believed they found a bit of a hidden gem and were excited about Hager’s future as a pass rusher. Unfortunately for the Bears, Hager is going to be looking to get after their quarterbacks in the future.
On Wednesday, Hager flipped his commitment from the Bears to the Texas Longhorns.
Hager has a family history with both schools. His father, Britt Hager, is a former Texas All-American while his brother, Bryce Hager, is currently a starting linebacker for the Bears.
The 6’3, 210-pounder is a local product from Austin. He attends Westlake High School. Hager is ranked as the country’s 70th-best weak-side defensive end prospect, the 176th-best overall prospect in the state of Texas and the 1,448th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Hager also holds offers from the Oklahoma Sooners, San Diego State Aztecs and SMU Mustangs, among others.
He is the 17th verbal commitment for the Longhorns in the class of 2015. The Longhorns now have the country’s 17th-ranked class and the top-ranked class in the Big 12.
