The Oakland Raiders were absolutely humiliated in their “home” game in London on Sunday, falling to the Miami Dolphins by a final score of 38-14. That brings them to a truly helpless 0-4 record this season. That does not bode well for head coach Dennis Allen, who was already considered to be on the hot seat before this season started.

Many people speculated that Allen would be fired after his team’s ugly week 4 loss. Sure enough, an AP report on Sunday night indicated that Allen is expected to be fired this week.

Nothing has been announced yet, but if Allen does get canned, assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tony Sparano would be expected to be named the interim head coach.

Sparano was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011. His record during that tenure was 29-32 in that time. Given the fact that he currently has “assistant head coach” in his title, it only stands to reason that he would be the next guy in line.

Considering the ugliness of the situation, Sparano probably stands as good a chance as anybody to at least survive while coaching that horrendous team, if only on a temporary basis.

Of course Allen has to get fired first, and that hasn’t actually happened yet, so stay tuned.
