Jimmy Garoppolo made his NFL debut on Monday night during the fourth quarter of the New England Patriots loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when Tom Brady was removed with the game out of hand at 41-7 as the Patriots got a glimpse of life after Brady.

Garoppolo was taken with the No. 60 0verall pick as the second rounder became the highest drafted quarterback by the Patriots since they drafted Drew Bledsoe first overall, but former Patriots linebacker and current ESPN NFL writes on ESPN Boston that the drafting of the former Eastern Illinois quarterback was a mistake.

“For this team right now, I feel there were errors made. The two errors were: 1. Trading Logan Mankins; 2. Drafting Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round. As excited as some may be watching Garoppolo in the preseason (and even last night), for this team right now, it could have used an offensive lineman with that second-round pick — especially if you knew trading Mankins was a possibility.”

Bruschi raises a valid point because the Patriots are built to win now and spending such a high pick on a developmental quarterback when it could have been used at a position where the Patriots are thin and could have contributed immediately would help the team get back to the Super Bowl.

He may turn out to be a fine player, but it also may not be for three or four more years, so do you agree with Bruschi’s take or was the drafting of Garoppolo a wise one?

Garoppolo was 6-of-7 passing for 70 yards and tossed a touchdown to Rob Gronkowski in relief of Brady on Monday night.
