The Dallas Stars have re-signed restricted free agent Brenden Dillon.

The Dallas Stars were one of the few teams in the league still dragging their feet in the rush to re-sign restricted free agents. They’re dragging their feet no more, though- the team has inked a contract with their final RFA, defenseman Brenden Dillon.

The bridge deal will expire at the end of the next season and is worth $1.25 million.

  • Fans are breathing a deep sigh of relief; the deal was seeming impossible at this point. Both Brenden Dillon’s agent and Stars GM Jim Nill had hit somewhat of an impasse over the past week, causing the blue liner to miss out on not only the team’s training camp but every pre-season matchup. Last anyone had heard, Brenden Dillon’s agent was asking for two years and $3.8 million- not much above what he ultimately got, but apparently too much for the team.

It seemed strange that the team would be so stingy with Brenden Dillon and his contract renewal. The defenseman is only 23, but was the team’s TOI leader last season- both in game averages and overall.

This contract follows the rapid-fire signings of Boston’s Torey Krug/Reilly Smith twin contracts and Dallas’s other pending RFA, Cody Eakin. All eyes in the league are now undoubtedly on Columbus, where RFA Ryan Johansen has been fighting the team tooth and nail on his contract. Mr. “Toews Money” remains one of the only RFA’s left in the league, with less than a week until the first official puck drop.
