Xbox Live Hacked, Could Happen Again At Christmas

Microsoft’s Xbox Live was hacked on Tuesday morning disabling service for most users.

If you attempted to log on to Xbox Live this morning and were unable to do so, you weren’t alone as millions across the country and Canada were unable to connect to the service.

While Microsoft has yet to confirm why the outage occurred, according to IGN, a hacker group going by the name of ‘Lizard Squad’ says they performed a DDOS attack on the Xbox Live servers.

Not every account dealt with a complete blackout from the service as some reported that only their friend list was taken offline, but either way it was clear the XBox’s service was interrupted in some capacity for almost all users.

This of course is just one of many recent hacks to hit the entertainment industry as Sony Pictures recently had movies released to the public while Microsoft competitor, Playstation Network (also owned by Sony) had their online service hacked.

Thankfully unlike some of the previous attacks, this particular hack only seemed to focus on the actual gaming aspect of the service and user information was not taken.

Unfortunately it’s something the group says they’re willing to do again, most likely around Christmas time when so many are planning to be online with their new gifts. It has been said the ‘Lizard Squad’ was also behind the PSN attack earlier this year though there has been no solid confirmation of such at this point.

Hopefully the potential hack during Christmas time is nothing more than a threat and will give Microsoft time to prepare to prevent such from being executed.
