Urban Meyer isn’t excited to have to bench two of his quarterbacks at Ohio State.

By far the biggest college football pre-season storyline will be what Ohio State is going to do with all its quarterbacks. The Buckeyes have three quarterbacks, Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, and Cardale Jones, who all have excellent claims on the starting quarterback position, and coach Urban Meyer has a big choice ahead of him.

It’s a choice that, apparently, Meyer isn’t excited to have to make. During a news conference Tuesday, Meyer talked about the decision he has ahead of him (via Bleacher Report’s Ben Axelrod).

Oh what a problem to have; too many good quarterbacks! You know who would like to have that problem? Every other football coach, ever.

But Meyer does have a huge choice ahead of him. Each quarterback in the running has a great case for the job. On the one hand you have Braxton Miller, who was considered a Heisman candidate before an injury ended his season before it began. On the other you have JT Barrett, who himself looked like a Heisman candidate in his 11 starts for the Buckeyes last year. And how can you go against Cardale Jones, who won the championship for OSU?

And the thing is, if Meyer’s QB choice struggles even a little bit, fans will immediately start calling for the quarterback’s head, knowing that they have two other great options on the roster.

There was talk a couple of months ago that Miller was considering transferring to LSU, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

There’s really no right answer for Meyer. Each of these quarterbacks is proven, and each would be well equipped to defend the Buckeyes’ title. Maybe he’s wishing that Cardale Jones had turned pro after all.

It definitely won’t be great for Meyer to have to bench two of these accomplished quarterbacks, but he’ll at least have the knowledge that whoever he chooses, he’ll have a great quarterback leading his team.
