If you’re still looking forward to your fantasy football draft, make sure to check out our full series of late round options that could end up being huge boosts to your team as great value picks.  After looking at wide receiver and running back in the last few days, today we’ll focus on the tight end position with eight late round TE that you should consider as your draft winds down.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

Tight end is a tricky position this season since there is one clearly elite option (Gronk), a couple of solid options (Jimmy Graham, Greg Olsen), and a whole lot of question marks.  With Julius Thomas recent injury, the pool has become even shallower for established TE options, and there were even questions surrounding him since he moved to Jacksonville this offseason.

With very few rock-solid options, many owners are waiting on tight end until the end of the draft.  If you do miss out on Gronk in the first round or two and decide to wait until the very end of your draft to fill the position, there are some options with upside that you can take a flier on while waiting to see who emerges after the first few weeks of the season.

Since there are so many question marks, I don’t see much difference between taking Jordan Cameron (averaging in the 8th round) and waiting until the 15th round when Kyle Rudolph and Tyler Eifert are still availble.  Since building your other positions is much easier in the higher rounds, I’d advise waiting until the end if you don’t land Gronk.

The late round tight ends on the following slides all have risks of their own, but they are going outside the top 12 tight ends off the board and can be had at the end of most fantasy football drafts.  All references to ADP (average draft position) are taken from fantasypros.com as of Wednesday, September 2. If you’ve already drafted, many of them will make preseason waiver wire pickups who can contribute early on in the season.

Let’s get started with our eight late round TE listed in the general order that I would consider taking them.  Since they do all have high risk, it’s best to find one you believe in as you pick your tight end in the closing rounds of your draft.
