DraftKings Main MLB Picks For September 10

There are 11 games on this Saturday night. Four pitchers top the $10,000 mark on DraftKings tonight, but the drop off is steep. Only three more top $7,500. Are there bargain in the lower tier? Should we use two cheap pitchers and pay for hitters? Let’s take a look at the past stats for some help.

Daniel Wright has given up 16 runs (11 earned) in his first 13 major league innings. He isn’t worth the risk against Hamels and the Rangers.

Only four current Marlins have faced Rich Hill. They are a combined 6-31(.194) in 31 at bats with three runs and nine strikeouts. If he can do that to the rest of the team, he will be a great play tonight.

Robert Stephenson has been very good in his three major league starts. He has given up six runs in three starts with 13 strikeouts. There is no reason that he can’t have a good night against Pittsburgh.

Drew Hutchison has never faced the Reds before. He has a 4.97 ERA on the season, but he had a couple of decent starts with the Blue Jays earlier this year. The Reds are mostly a mess on offense, so there is some potential here.

Best Bets:

Max Scherzer ($14,400): Scherzer has pitched well against the Phillies in his career. The Phils are only hitting .203 against Scherzer in 192 at bats with four homers, 13 RBI, and 62 strikeouts. He may give up a run or two, but the win potential is high, and so are the strikeouts. That makes him one of the better options tonight, even at this price.

Jon Gray ($10,600): Gray has absolutely dominated the Padres so far. They are just 9-59(.153) against Gray with one homer, only four runs, and 22 strikeouts. In fact, you can argue that Gray’s numbers are better than Scherzer’s, especially when you consider he gets the Padres at Petco Park.

Honorable Mention:

Cole Hamels ($9,500): The Angels are only hitting .188 against Hamels in 138 at bats, but they have scored 13 runs. The Angels have only struck out 26 times against Hamels though, which limits his value if this trend continues. Hamels will have good numbers, I just don’t know if it will match up to his price.

Adam Wainwright ($8,100): Yes, pitting him against Chase Anderson is almost an instant win. That gets him points right there, but he has also pitched very well against the Brewers. Milwaukee is hitting only .215 in 144 at bats against Wainwright with only two homers, just nine runs, and a solid 37 strikeouts. After a superb July, Wainwright struggled to a 6.10 ERA in six August starts. Look for him to get back on track here.

Bartolo Colon ($7,000): The Braves are hitting a respectable .269 against Colon with three homers and 15 RBI in 212 at bats. However, A.J. Pierzynski has two of those homers and five RBI. That brings the total down to just one homer in 144 at bats and 10 RBI. Colon doesn’t rack up the strikeouts, but he could put up solid numbers like he has all season long.

Dark Horses:

James Shields ($5,600): I have a hard time putting Shields here. He has a 6.07 ERA on the season, and has been even worse upon his return to the American League. That said, The Royals are only hitting .221 against him in 86 at bats with only one homer and six RBI. The 15 strikeouts aren’t elite, but the rest of the numbers are very good against his former team.

John Gant ($5,400): Gant dominated the Mets back on June 17th, putting together his best start so far. He picked up 24.6 DraftKings points, giving up only two hits and one run in 6.2 innings pitched. Can he do it again? If he can, you will be way ahead of the competition.

Christian Friedrich ($4,500): Friedrich has done very well against the Rockies so far. They are only 5-29(.172) with three runs and 11 strikeouts against him. This game is also at Petco Park, which means Friedrich could put up big numbers at a bargain basement price.

The Diamondbacks have actually managed to hit Johnny Cueto pretty well. Jake Lamb ($4,000) has four hits in 11 at bats with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Welington Castillo ($3,400) is only 6-22(.273), but he has two walks, a homer, and four RBI. Yasmany Tomas ($2,900) only has two hits in ten at bats against Cueto, but one of them is a solo homer. Paul Goldschmidt ($4,200) is 6-22(.273) with two doubles, a homer, and five RBI off of Cueto. Chris Owings ($3,500) is 3-11 with two triples and two RBI.

You may want to stack Orioles against Jordan Zimmerman. Steve Pearce ($3,500) is 4-11 with a walk, two doubles, two homers, and three RBI off Zimmerman. Chris Davis ($4,700) is 3-6 with a solo shot off of Zimmerman. Caleb Joseph ($2,300) is a perfect 2-2 with a homer and two RBI. Nolan Reimold ($3,100) has three hits in four at bats with a solo homer.

The Tigers have a whopping 13 homers and 47 RBI against Ubaldo Jimenez in only 217 at bats! Erick Aybar ($3,100) is 6-16(.375) with a homer and two RBI. Miguel Cabrera ($5,300) is 15-45 with ten walks, four doubles, a homer, and nine RBI against Ubaldo. Jose Iglesias ($2,300) has four hits in seven at bats with a triple, a homer, and four RBI. Victor Martinez ($3,100) is 11-31(.355) with two walks, a double, four homers, and 12 RBI off Jimenez. J.D. Martinez ($4,300) has three hits in 11 at bats with two walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI. Justin Upton ($4,200) is 8-28(.286) with three walks, three doubles, a triple, two homers, and eight driven in against Jimenez. Ian Kinsler ($4,400) is 8-25(.320) with five walks, three doubles, and three RBI. There are plenty of options tonight.

Cleveland has hit Hector Santiago hard. Coco Crisp ($3,400) is 4-11 with three walks, three homers, and six RBI against Santiago. Jason Kipnis ($4,100) is 8-23(.348) with three walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI. Mike Napoli ($4,000) only has three hits in 15 at bats, but he has 12 walks, a double, a homer, and five RBI off of Santiago. Jose Ramirez ($3,700) has three hits in seven at bats with two walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI. Carlos Santana ($4,100) is 5-19(.263) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, a four RBI against Santiago.

Odubel Herrera ($2,900) is about the only Phillie that has had any sustained success against Max Scherzer. Herrera is 7-22(.318) with five walks, a double, a triple, and a RBI against him. Andres Blanco ($2,500) is 5-10 with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Tyler Goeddel ($2,100), Ryan Howard ($2,600), and Cameron Rupp ($2,100) have the other homers against Scherzer, but they are a combined 7-42(.167).

Randal Grichuk ($4,800) is 2-5 with a double and three RBI against Chase Anderson. Jhonny Peralta ($3,300) is also 2-5 with two walks and a solo homer.

Joe Panik ($4,600) is 3-6 with a solo homer against Archie Bradley. Buster Posey ($3,700) is 4-8 with a pair of RBI.

Wil Myers ($3,500) is 3-10 with a double, a homer, and three RBI against Jon Gray.

Justin Turner ($4,300) is 5-11(.455) with four walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Tom Koehler. Chase Utley ($3,800) is 6-17(.353) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and six RBI off Koehler.

Brian Dozier ($5,600) is 2-3 with a solo homer against Mike Clevinger.

Jose Abreu ($5,100) is 5-20 with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI against Edinson Volquez. Adam Eaton ($4,300) is 7-28 with a triple and three RBI. Melky Cabrera ($4,100) has hit Volquez hard. Melky is 10-33(.303) with three walks, two doubles, a homer, and five RBI off of him.

Jayson Werth ($3,400) is 2-6 with a homer and two RBI against Jerad Eickhoff.

Ryan Braun ($4,100) is 16-77(.208) with two walks, four doubles, two homers, and seven RBI against Adam Wainwright in his career. That is all of the homers, and all but two of the RBI that the current Brewers have against Wainwright.

Freddie Freeman ($5,200) is 13-27(.481) with two walks, five doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Bartolo Colon.

Albert Pujols ($5,000) only has six hits in 32 at bats (.188), but he has a walk, a double, three homers, and seven RBI against Cole Hamels.
