MLB DFS Value Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel April 4th
I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious values on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.
After a busy opening day, tonight’s slate will feature eight games, with San Francisco (5.1), Houston (4.8), Cleveland (4.7), and Los Angeles (4.6), holding the best projected team totals. Unlike yesterday’s slate, there are more affordable pitchers in play today, possibly unlocking a few bigger bats. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

DraftKings’ Value
A.J. Pollock – ARI (OF) – $3700
After a wild, back and forth game in Arizona on Sunday night, game two of the opening series will be a feature game on tonight’s slate. While San Fran does have the largest team total, Arizona is predicted to also have a decent offensive showing. Arizona is projected to score 4.1 runs, and leadoff hitter, A.J. Pollock should benefit. In Pollock’s five at bats on opening night, he recorded 3 hits, one of which was a home run. Pollock has fairly neutral splits, but offers value via his spot in the order, and combination of stolen base and power upside.
Yunel Escobar – LAA (3B/SS) – $2700
Yunel Escobar will lead off for the Angels tonight, against lefty, Sean Manaea. Escobar’s spot in the order and pricing make him a justifiable value play. He’s priced at $2700 on DraftKings, but he’s priced at $2800 on FanDuel (while only a $100 increase, you need to evaluate it based on % of the salary cap allotted).

FanDuel’s Value
Brandon Belt – SF (1B) – $2900
As mentioned, the Giants have the best projected team total of 5.1 runs. Brandon Belt will hit second, and offers tremendous value at this price. Belt will face a lefty, Patrick Corbin, but given Belt’s neutral splits, it shouldn’t affect him much.

Hunter Pence – SF (OF) – $2500
Hunter Pence is extremely mispriced on FanDuel, relative to DraftKings. Pence carries a price tag of only $2500 on FanDuel, whereas he’s priced at $4000 on DraftKings. The opposing pitcher, Corbin, had an average opponent exit velocity of 92 MPH last year, and given Vegas’ projection, I’d expect the Giants to score plenty of runs.
Kenta Maeda – LA (P) – $8600
Expect Kenta Maeda to be the chalk on FanDuel tonight. LA is a -215 favorite and only expected to allow 3 runs. Maeda’s K/9 of 9.38 should bode well against a strikeout prone team like the Padres.
Best of luck!
