DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 10

We have a full slate today with eight early games. The Rangers-Nationals game starts earlier than everyone else, so that game is only available on the all day tournament. However, we still have a few high priced pitchers with little mid-tier options. Is this the day to pay up for pitching? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line was down to 108.3 DraftKings points due to poor pitching from many highly owned guys. My lineup with Jhoulys Chacin and Corey Kluber was solid, but the hitters were not. My other lineup was honestly the worst one I have ever built. Peacock and Triggs lost a total of 16.2 points, and the only hitter in double digits was Mookie Betts at ten.

The winning lineup was still pretty high at 215.35. He used Ervin Santana‘s shutout of the Giants with Kulber along with huge games from his outfielders (Mallex Smith, Steven Souza, and Giancarlo Stanton) to take down the tournament.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 30, 2017; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Jose Berrios (17) delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Houston Astros at Target Field. Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Carlos Martinez ($12,300): The current Phillies have only faced Martinez 11 times. They have three hits (all singles) and three strikeouts. He has also never even allowed a hit at Citizen’s Bank Park! However, he has only pitched two innings there. We really have nothing to go on besides the fact that Martinez has 88 strikeouts in 79.1 innings this year, and the Phillies are a free swinging team.

P: Jose Berrios ($7,900): Since I went with another unproven pitcher, I figure I may as well do the same with my second one. Berrios has never faced the Giants, but he owns a 2.76 ERA in five starts this season and the Giants are one of the worst offenses in the league. Berrios is priced way too low for what he is capable of today.

C: Josh Phegley ($2,500): Stephen Vogt got the start last night, so Phegley should be in there for the day game after a night game. I sure hope he is considering he is 2-3 with a double, a homer, and three RBI in his career against Erasmo Ramirez. Phegley makes for a great punt play so long as he starts.

1B: Albert Pujols ($3,600): Mike Fiers actually has worse stats against the Angels than Nolasco has against the Astros. Pujols is only 3-15, but he has two walks, two homers, and four RBI against him. The Angels have taken Fiers deep eight times in only 112 at bats. You can bet some balls will be flying out of Minute Maid Park this afternoon.

2B: Whit Merrifield ($4,100): Merrifield had his hit streak snapped at 19 in the loss to Houston on Tuesday, but he is still batting leadoff against rookie Miguel Diaz. If the Royals are going to breakout, Merrifield will be why. I will get my exposure with their leadoff hitter.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,300): Escobar is 6-15 with two homers and three RBI in his career against Fiers. He is actually in a better spot than usual since Escobar has been serving as the cleanup hitter with Mike Trout out of the lineup. He could be a great bargain this afternoon.

SS: Andrelton Simmons ($3,800): Simmons is 3-10 with a walk and a double off of Mike Fiers, but he is in here mostly due to his lineup position. He is holding down the leadoff spot thanks to a career year at the plate, and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Angels could score quite a few runs against today, so I want several key pieces.

OF: Ender Inciarte ($4,600): Inciarte is 3-9 with three walks, a solo homer, and three runs scored against Robert Gsellman. Gsellman has been pretty good lately, but this park can make good pitchers look bad. Neither team scored many runs last night, but that is unusual in SunTrust Park so far. I am using the entire Braves outfield today!

OF: Matt Adams ($4,200): Okay, so Adams plays first base, but I wanted Pujols in my Angels stack, so I moved Adams out here. He has never faced Robert Gsellman, but his brief history in SunTrust Park says enough. He averages a homer every ten at bats here. Adams is due.

OF: Matt Kemp ($3,700): Kemp is 6-12 with a walk, three doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI against Gsellman. He has been the feared hitter that the Braves needed in their lineup to help Freddie Freeman. Now it is Adams that gets to help him. At any rate, I like the Braves power. Stacking Mets lefties against Sean Newcomb in his first major league start may not be a bad idea either.

May 31, 2017; Miami, FL, USA; Miami Marlins starting pitcher Dan Straily (58) delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Marlins Park. Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Sonny Gray ($8,300): Gray has held the Rays to a .230 average in 61 at bats. He has also surrendered three homers, but only five runs while striking out 13. This is a cautionary tale though. Gray has given up four homers in 16.2 innings on the road this year, and posts an awful 7.02 road ERA. However, Gray has a 1.93 ERA in three career starts at Tropicana Field. He should be relatively safe here, and has a good chance at a win opposite Erasmo Ramirez.

More from FanSided

P: Dan Straily ($8,200): The Pirates are hitting just .202 against Straily in 94 at bats with only two homers and five runs to go with 23 strikeouts. Josh Harrison has hit both of the home runs against him if you are looking for the batter angle here. I wouldn’t consider any other Pirate here. Straily has done a great job of shutting them down so far.

C: Brian McCann ($3,900): The Astros have hit .281 against Ricky Nolasco in 139 at bats. McCann has certainly done his part, going 24-71(.338) with two walks, five doubles, eight homers, 11 runs scored, and an incredible 26 RBI. I sure hope McCann is the DH today because I want this kind of exposure to Nolasco.

1B: Wil Myers ($3,600): Myers is only 1-2 with a double and a walk in his career against Ian Kennedy, but Kennedy has had a hard time keeping the ball in any park this year. He has surrendered ten homers in only 50.2 innings pitched, and he carries a 6.16 road ERA. Myers is way too cheap here. So is most of the Padres offense, for that matter.

2B: Jose Altuve ($4,900): Altuve is 4-8 against Nolasco, but he has no counting stats. Not that I care. This lineup will score plenty of runs this afternoon. With a .500 average, you can bet that Altuve will be involved in some way.

3B: Kris Bryant ($4,800): Bryant only has four career at bats against Jeff Hoffman. He has three hits, three runs scored, two homers, and five RBI. Hoffman’s numbers are pretty good if he can stay away from Byrant, but that’s a pretty big if. Bryant could be a bargain today for under $5,000.

SS: Tim Beckham ($3,200): Beckham is perfect with a single and a solo homer in his career against Sonny Gray. He has also scored both times he has reached base. For this price, he is worth taking a chance on again.

OF: George Springer ($5,400): Springer has cooled off a little, but he is 2-5 with a walk and a solo homer in his career against Ricky Nolasco. Springer was given a day off yesterday, and the Astros struggled. Look for them to get back on track with him in the lineup today.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($4,700): Dickerson continues to rake at the top of this order. He is also 2-5 with a homer and three RBI in his career against Sonny Gray. I’m not so blind that I believe Gray will throw a shutout here. I’m expecting him to give up around three runs, but there isn’t much for mid-range pitching options on this slate. Gray is one of the better bets in this tier even though I have to hitters against him.

OF: Eddie Rosario ($3,000): I needed a punt play here as well. Instead of Eric Young, I will pay the extra $500 for Rosario considering he is 2-8 with two homers and five RBI in his career against Jeff Samardzija. Rosario could have issues hitting it out of AT&T Park, but with this kind of history, it’s worth rolling the dice with him.
