DraftKings MLB Picks For July 24

The Cubs and White Sox have a matinee tilt at Wrigley today. All of the 12 other games are in this DraftKings tournament though, and we have a lot of big name pitchers going. Which ones are worth paying for? Where should we stack? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was only at 93.55. That had to do with Both Kershaw and Strasburg both having to leave their starts early. The 48.3% that faded Kershaw had a decided advantage for about the only time this year that it paid to fade Kershaw. My lineup was done in by Kershaw aned a failed Mariners stack.

The winning lineup was once again low at 155.9 DraftKings points. He saved on pitching with Dinelson Lamet and Jose Quintana. He topped the lineup off with a Cubs stack and Didi Gregorius, who prior to yesterday was 1-16 in his career against Yovani Gallardo.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

KANSAS CITY, MO – JULY 20: Salvador Perez #13 of the Kansas City Royals jokes in the dugout during the game against the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium on July 20, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images) /

P: Jacob deGrom ($13,400): There aren’t many Padres around from the last time deGrom faced them. Not that it really matters. deGrom is easily the best option on the slate not just for his weaker opponent, but because he has pitched well lately. He has only surrendered three runs (two earned) in three starts since the All Star Break. deGrom has a ridiculous 1.52 ERA since June 6th. Roll him out there with confidence tonight!

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($7,800): Rodriguez is holding the Mariners to a .205 average in 39 at bats with just one run to go with eight strikeouts. Rodriguez shut down this same Mariner team back on May 26th. He has been a little rough around the edges coming off the DL, but he did strike out eight in that start despite walking four. That really helps mitigate the damage. So does holding the platoon advantage over nearly every good hitter in the Seattle lineup. It is no coincidence that the Mariners don’t hit lefties well. Cano, Seager, and Gamel all hit from the left side.

C: Salvador Perez ($4,100): Perez has absolutely crushed Verlander in his career. He is 25-61(.410) with eight doubles, a triple, six homers, six runs scored, and a whopping 16 RBI in his career against Verlander. Verlander may have mastered most hitters, but Perez is one that he can’t crack.

1B: Josh Bell ($4,500): I am guessing that josh Bell doesn’t want to leave Denver. He destroyed Rockies pitching over the weekend, going 6-16 with a homer and six RBI. Luckily for Bell, Matt Cain is one of those few pitchers that has the ability to turn any stadium into Coors Field.

2B: Brad Miller ($3,300): Miller’s bat is starting to come around, but this price doesn’t reflect it. He has two homers and six RBI in the last seven games, and gets Kevin Gausman tonight. Gausman has a 7.98 ERA on the road, so even though this is a pitcher’s park. the price is right on Miller.

3B: Wilmer Flores ($3,500): Flores has only faced Clayton Richard twice. He hit a home run off of him in that little span. Flores should be in there against the lefty once again, and is a solid bet to get some good contact off of him, even if he doesn’t leave spacious Petco Park.

SS: Ketel Marte ($3,200): You have to check the lineup for this one since Marte may not be in there, but I want his speed against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Especially when you consider that Tyler Flowers isn’t great at throwing out base stealers anyway. We could see a few steals for Arizona tonight. Gregor Blanco is too high based on this, but Marte is not. Provided he starts, anyway.

OF: Mallex Smith ($3,500): Smith homered and stole two bases over the weekend, so hopefully that means his slump is coming to an end. Of course, facing Gausman could really pronounce the end of said slump. And he should be leading off for this low, low price.

OF: Chris Young ($3,400): Well, I went with a guy that mashes lefties earlier in this lineup with Flroes, so I may as well return to the well. That said, this one makes me nervous with how well Paxton has pitched lately. Still, Safeco FIeld is not quite the hitter’s haven that it is made out to be. Righties can get it out of here.

OF: Scott Schebler ($3,300): If this game were in Cincinnati, I would be stacking it like crazy. Cleveland isn’t nearly as much of a hitter’s park, but Josh Tomlin and his 6.02 ERA is definitely a hitter’s pitcher. Schebler is way too cheap here.

SEATTLE, WA – JUNE 27: Starter James Paxton #65 of the Seattle Mariners delivers a pitch during the first inning of a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Safeco Field on June 27, 2017 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Stephen Brashear/Getty Images) /

P: James Paxton ($10,500): Zack Greinke‘s numbers against the Braves are not very good, and Brad Peacock holds enormous potential, but still likely wont top six innings. So I will go with the cheaper Paxton, who has held Boston to a .184 average in 38 at bats with no runs and nine strikeouts. Paxton has also been lights out at home, posting a 2.67 at Safeco Field this year. Want another reason? Paxton has not given up more than two runs in his four July starts while striking out 28.

More from FanSided

P: Justin Verlander ($8,700): Verlander held the Royals to two runs in Kansas City his last time out. This is important because Verlander’s road ERA is a run and a half higher than at home, where he gets the Royals tonight. After a mostly rough June, Verlander seems to be earning our trust back everywhere, not just at Comerica Park. He should be in for another solid start against the Royals tonight.

C: Chris Gimenez ($2,500): Gimenez doesn’t get the start against every lefty, but with a tough one like Hyun-Jin Ryu on the mound, he should be out there. Gimenez has three homers in only 41 at bats this year against left handed pitching. For this price, I will take that chance.

1B: Mike Napoli ($3,900): Napoli has always hit lefties well, and this year is no exception. He has slugged seven homers in just 66 at bats against southpaws this year. Tonight he gets an average one at best in Adam Conley. Napoli could be a great bargain here.

2B: Chase Utley ($4,000): Utley should be back in the lineup with a righty on the hill. At least I hope he is for this righty, who owns a 8.19 ERA on the season and whom Utley is 11-23 against with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI. All Dodger lefties are in play against Bartolo Colon tonight.

3B: Matt Chapman ($2,000): I don’t trust the A’s enough to do a full stack against Francisco Liriano, but Chapman homered in each of the last two games against the Mets while not getting a lefty. Today he gets one. A struggling one. All for the minimum price!

SS: Corey Seager ($5,100): Seager is 3-6 lifetime against Colon. I don’t really care that all of those hits are singles and that he hasn’t driven in a run off of him. I have a feeling that changes tonight.

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($5,500): I want some exposure to middling lefty Martin Perez, and Stanton looks like the place to get it. He has six homers in the last ten games, upping his season mark to 30. Aaron who?

OF: Cody Bellinger ($4,800): Bellinger has never had the privilege of facing Colon. I have a feeling that he is going to like what he sees. Is this not about the equivalent of Bellinger hitting pitches off of his dad in this year’s Home Run Derby? They are about the same age…..

OF: Alex Presley ($2,900): Presley has been on a tear since the trade of J.D. Martinez last week. In fact, he has a hit in every game since July 15th. He got the day off against a lefty yesterday, but he will be back in there against a righty today with his average up to a cool .329. He could be a nice value play tonight.
