Yonder Alonso Dealt to the Seattle Mariners: Fantasy Impact
The Seattle Mariners placed a claim on Yonder Alonso and were able to complete a deal with the Oakland Athletics. They are sending outfield prospect Boog Powell for the All-Star 1B.
Seattle Mariners recent surge led them to acquire 1B Yonder Alonso. They’re 56-55 trailing the Kansas City Royals by 1.5 games of the 2nd Wild Card Spot. They’ve seen limited production out of their current 1B Danny Valencia. Valencia is slashing .266/.317/.418 while posting 12 HR, 56 RBI, and .152 ISO.
For the season, Yonder Alonso is slashing .266/.369/.527 while posting 22 HR, 49 RBI, and .260 ISO. Although, making the All-Star team for the 1st time he’s seen a decline since the All-Star break. In the 2nd half, Alonso is slashing a dismissal .230/.356/.377 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, and .148 ISO.
Boog Powell has split time between AAA and MLB this season. For the season, in AAA he was slashing .340/.416/.490 while posting 6 HR, 33 RBI, and .150 ISO. In the MLB Powell has seen limited time with 43 plate appearances but has struggled. He is slashing .194/.310/.194 while posting 0 HR, 2 RBI, and .000 ISO. He was not ranked in the top 30 prospects of the Mariners system.

Fantasy owners will be displeased with Alonso heading to the Mariners. Alonso and Valencia are likely heading to a platoon role. On the season vs RHP, Alonso is slashing .286/.391/.557 while posting 18 HR, 40 RBI, and .271 ISO.
While, Valencia vs LHP is slashing .297/.368/.505 while posting 4 HR, 23 RBI, and .209 ISO. Alonso could see some time at DH also, but will limited with Nelson Cruz as their DH.
There’s really no big winner in this deal as it hurts Alonso owners and Powell is not a highly rated prospect. Alonso fantasy stock will take a hit for the season, owners should look at the Mariners match ups and put him in the lineup when they are facing mostly RHP for the week.
For you dynasty league owners it doesn’t hurt as much as Alonso is a free agent at the end of the season where he could sign somewhere else.
