Previewing the June 5, 2019 edition of NXT UK, which features a fatal four-way to determine the No. 1 contender to the WWE United Kingdom Championship.

After many weeks of hype, and several instances of run-on sentences attempting to succinctly describe the stakes of qualifying matches, it’s finally time. Yes, the main attraction on this week’s episode of NXT UK will be a fatal four-way to determine the new No. 1 contender to the WWE United Kingdom Championship: Joe Coffey versus Jordan Devlin versus Dave Mastiff versus Travis Banks.

The first to qualify, Joe Coffey, will also be the overwhelming crowd favorite, as a Scot wrestling in Scotland. This should present an interesting dynamic, as every match featuring a Gallus member has during this run of Glasgow episodes. Normally ruthless villains, Coffey and his cohorts have been conquering heroes for the Braehead Arena crowd.

And if that crowd were willing to mercilessly boo the innocuous Flash Morgan Webster in support of their hometown boy, then all bets are off in an even higher stakes contest against Devlin, Mastiff and Banks. That — taken with the fact he previously failed in a title shot against Pete Dunne at TakeOver: Blackpool — should make Coffey extra motivated to prove he belongs at the top of the NXT UK class.

Jordan Devlin doesn’t want to be in this four-way. Not because he doesn’t want to be No. 1 contender, but because he especially wants to be. He feels entitled to the designation. There doesn’t need to be a match, because the No. 1 contender is already him. Devlin recently challenged and lost to WALTER in a non-title, WrestleMania Axxess match, but the Irish Ace is still dripping with arrogant confidence.

Will he prove his point that nothing — neither Iron King nor Bomber nor Buzzsaw — beats an Ace? Or, will he learn the hard way that, in some card game variants, an Ace is considered the lowest of them all?

By rather easily dispatching of Wolfgang in his qualifier, Dave Mastiff established himself as the large dog-man to beat in NXT UK. Once Mastiff had the slightest bit of an opening, he was able to use his overwhelming size and strength to exploit it and subsequently win the match in approximately three moves and 45 seconds.

Size and strength remain his biggest advantage in this four-way, especially against relative pipsqueaks like Devlin and Banks, but even against a bruiser like Coffey. As was just established, all Mastiff needs is one good run to take this thing. Dangle the promise of a treat like a title shot in front of him, and Mastiff might cannonball himself through a brick wall to get to it.

Every competitor has a role to play in this match and Travis Banks’ is definitely that of the underdog. Banks has a history of getting badly beat up. Specifically, he’s already had his ass kicked and been injured by both Joe Coffey and Jordan Devlin. And while Dave Mastiff has yet to kick his ass and injure him, the size discrepancy there indicates that Mastiff probably could do those things rather easily if he tried.

Despite that proclivity, however, Travis Banks is also tough and resilient. He came back from those beatdown-induced injuries to qualify for this fatal four-way in a match where he spent the majority of his time kicking out at two, before triumphing in a flurry of offense. If anyone can overcome the odds against two of his former bullies and a third man considerably larger than him, it’s Banks.
