A preview of the August 28 edition of NXT UK, the last episode before NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff.

With only a handful of days to go until TakeOver: Cardiff, NXT UK is perfectly setting the stage for their biggest show yet. But, you know the builds for all them matches on that card? Yeah, they all seem just about done.

Maybe Toni Storm will cut a final promo in reaction to Kay Lee Ray’s worthy-of-a-slap venom. Or maybe Noam Dar will insult Travis Banks a few more times. Other than that though, there’s little room left for storyline buildup.

It’s weird, they did this before TakeOver: New York too, when Pete Dunne and WALTER had their tense contract signing and stare down with still one more episode of television to go before the event. That however, was just one match. This is an entire show locked-and-ready with still one more episode of television to go.

As such, this episode is confirmed to feature at least two wrestlers not on the Cardiff card, with more likely to show up. It’s a “best of the rest, and then some more of the rest,” if you will.

The main event — or at least, the main hyped match — will be Jordan Devlin taking on Kenny Williams. Neither man has had much success in NXT UK of late.

Jordan Devlin ate the pin in the fatal four-way that briefly made Travis Banks No. 1 contender. He kicked off this run of shows in Plymouth by losing to Alexander Wolfe after complaining he wasn’t getting the respect he deserved. Most recently, he’s been unable to finish a backstage interview, first being interrupted by a flying suitcase — as part of a Piper Niven and Rhea Ripley brawl — and last week being cut off by Kenny Williams.

In cutting him off, Williams chided Devlin for his constant complaining and challenged him to a match, this match. A brief rundown of Williams’ latest appearances: He failed to win the tag titles with Noam Dar, fell victim to Kassius Ohno’s ongoing crusade on smaller millennial wrestlers, got betrayed and had his face thrown in extra-disgusting Download Fest mud by Dar, lost his shoe and match with Dar and was the third-most important wrestler in a one-on-one loss to Travis Banks a couple of weeks ago (Noam Dar sat in on commentary).

Still, Williams thinks he’s lucky enough to beat the Ace. Considering his above track record, and that he was brought out — along with such venerated NXT UK jobbers as Jack Starz and Ashton Smith — to help pull apart WALTER and Tyler Bate, things don’t exactly look great for him.
