Auburn fans roast Alabama to a crisp after choking in NCAA Tournament

Auburn fans were far from gentle hammering Alabama basketball for their choke job against UCLA in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Rivalries can take you high or bring you low. For Auburn fans on Sunday night, No. 2 seed Alabama’s upset loss to UCLA did the former.

The Tigers weren’t involved, but Auburn fans had plenty to celebrate once UCLA took control in overtime. A thrilling buzzer-beater to force the extra period couldn’t save the Tide. That may have made it even better. After all, the greater your rival’s pain, the greater your joy should be.

There’s a simple phrase to describe the reaction of most Auburn fans: You love to see it.

The fact that Alabama missed 14 free throws let some fans twist the knife even deeper.

UCLA getting possession late in regulation thanks to the ball just brushing an Alabama player’s shorts was another area of ridicule.

Alabama forced overtime on a shocking buzzer-beater. Even the Tigers had to nod in respect for that one.

Once the game was done, the bigger picture digs began.

Auburn definitely got the last laugh.

The Tigers didn’t have much to celebrate this season. They went 13-14 while missing the NCAA Tournament, but they were spared the indignity of seeing their bitter rival advance any further in the postseason. That would have been true torture.
