The Indianapolis 500 start time for 2021

The 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. ET at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Coverage will begin on NBC at 11 a.m. ET, so there will be plenty of time to settle in and enjoy the anticipation of race coming up.

Two-time New Zealand Sportsman of the Year Scott Dixon, who won the Indy 500 in 2008, will start on pole with American Colton Herta and Dutchman Rinus Veekay rounding out Row 1.

While Dixon is looking to relive his past glory, the other two are battling to become the youngest driver to win the race ever at 21 and 20 respectively.

On the other end of the spectrum, Takuma Sato is looking to pull a double-whammy on Sunday. If he repeats as the Indianapolis 500 winner while starting from Row 6, he would be just the sixth driver to do it twice in a row. No one has done that since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002.

A win would also make him one of only five drivers older than 44 years old to cross the finish line in first.

The Indy 500 was first raced in 1911. It was still run last year despite the pandemic, though this year’s event will have considerably more energy with a full crowd.

The 200-lap, 500-mile trek is part of the Triple Crown of Motosport along with the Monaco Grand Prix and the 42 Hours of Le Mans.
