3 quarterbacks who need to be benched after Week 9

These NFL quarterbacks played badly enough in the early slate of Week 9 to just take a seat on the bench and think about their poor play. 

Week 9 of the NFL season got off to just about the craziest start that you could imagine. The Cowboys got blown out by the Broncos at home, the Bills lost to the Jaguars as neither team found the end zone, the Browns lambasted the Bengals after a drama-filled week in Cleveland, the Falcons upended the Saints, and the Giants topped the Raiders.

Amid all of those shocking results, NFL fans were witness to some truly bad quarterback play throughout the league. So we’re looking at some of the worst performances of the early slate in Week 9 and the players who, based on what happened on Sunday, should be benched.

To be clear, this isn’t to say that every quarterback mentioned wholly deserves to be benched or even should be sat down. However, if we’re looking just at Week 9, put these NFL quarterbacks as far away from the football as possible.

3. Dak Prescott (Cowboys) and Josh Allen (Bills)

Obviously, neither the Cowboys nor the Bills are going to bench their franchise quarterbacks. Dak Prescott and Josh Allen are two of the best at their position in the league — top-five signal-callers by my estimation — and will surely right the ship moving forward. So we’re not actually suggesting that Dallas and Buffalo should bench their quarterbacks.

Even still, it needs to be highlighted just how badly the two superstars played on Sunday in highly troubling losses for both teams.

In the Cowboys’ 30-16 loss to a mediocre Broncos team that hadn’t topped an opponent with a winning record this season, Prescott went only 19-of-39 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. But it was much worse than that as both scores came in garbage time and his completion rate was in the 30s for much of the game.

As for Allen, he and the Bills managed a paltry six points against the lowly Jaguars in a 9-6 loss. Allen did throw for 264 yards and led the team with 50 rushing yards but he failed to score a touchdown and tossed two costly interceptions against Jacksonville.

These are two high-end quarterbacks, as we’ve already covered. But if they’re going to realize their teams’ legitimate Super Bowl expectations, they can’t deliver the type of performances we saw in Week 9.
