Has anyone won the Heisman Trophy twice?
By Ethan Lee
Has there ever been a college football player who has been able to win the Heisman Trophy on multiple occasions? So far, there’s only been one and it’s been a while.
Throughout college football’s extensive history, only a handful of college football programs have been able to have multiple Heisman Trophy winners. Even fewer programs have been able to win the sport’s most prominent award in back-to-back seasons.
But has there ever been a college football player who has brought the Heisman Trophy home twice?
Well, yes.
And so far, he’s the only player in college football history to win the award twice and also in back-to-back seasons.
Who has won the Heisman Trophy multiple times?
While some players have attempted and been in positions to win the Heisman on multiple occasions, only one player has actually accomplished this remarkable feat.
Ohio State running back Archie Griffin, in his junior and senior seasons, was able to go out and put on such incredible performances while leading the Buckeyes that Heisman Trophy voters presented college football’s most prestigious award to him in back-to-back seasons.
Griffin earned the award in 1974 and 1975. Since then, not another player has been able to win the Heisman twice. And of course, nobody has won it in back-to-back seasons since Griffin. It’s a difficult thing to even win it once. It’s essentially borderline impossible to win it twice. But it has been done.
