Were any new matches added to WrestleMania 39 on the March 3 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown?

WrestleMania 39 is four weeks away. On Saturday Apr. 1 and Sunday, Apr. 2, WWE presents it’s biggest event of the year from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

After the Feb. 27 episode of Monday Night Raw, there are four confirmed matches for the WrestleMania card. Considering it is a two-night show, fans can expect the matches on the card to be in the double digits.

On March 3, WWE presented the latest edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Were there any new matches locked in? Let’s take a look at the confirmed matches, and the bouts we can expect to be made official in the days leading up to WrestleMania 39.

WWE WrestleMania 39 match card: Confirmed matches

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
  • Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Omos (with MVP)

The four matches on the card are Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal championship, Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s championship, Bianca Belair vs. Asuka for the Raw Women’s championship, and Brock Lesnar vs. Omos.

Reigns and Rhodes faced off for the first time in the lead-up to their main event match at WrestleMania 39. In the exchange, Reigns recalled the conversations that he had with Dusty Rhodes, Cody’s father, when he was training with him. Specifically, Reigns said that Dusty never brought up Cody in those talks. After Reigns extended his arm for a handshake, Rhodes emotionally responded to Reigns saying he didn’t “exist.” Rhodes said that he has to “exist,” and said the only way he can do so is by beating him at WrestleMania.

Expected WWE WrestleMania 39 match card additions

Let’s take a look at the matches that you can expect to be added to the WrestleMania 39 match card.

  • Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships: The Uso’s (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (c) vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens
  • Edge vs. Finn Balor
  • Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Bray Wyatt
  • Becky Lynch, Lita, and Trish Stratus vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky)

Last week, Dominik Mysterio cost his father, Rey, a match against Karrion Kross. While Rey got in his face, he didn’t strike his 25-year-old son. This week, Dominik was challenged by Santos Escobar. Dominik got the win after some help from Rhea Ripley, and ripped the mask that Rey gifted Escobar weeks ago. Rey appeared on the stage and confronted Dominik, and once again refused to get fight his son. That is when Dominik struck Rey in the head before departing backstage.

Drew McIntyre entered the ring and expressed his desire to face Gunther for the Intercontinental championship. Sheamus, McIntyre’s tag team partner, took exception to the challenge, considering the Intercontinental championship is the only title he’s yet to win in WWE. From there, it led to LA Knight, Kofi Kingston, and Karrion Kross entering the ring, and ultimately brawling with one another. They all want a shot at Gunther for the title, and they will get their chance next week, when they compete in a Fatal 5-Way match to determine the No. 1 contender for the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 39.

Lashley, who compete primarily on Monday Night Raw, appeared on SmackDown to call out Bray Wyatt. This past Monday on Raw, Wyatt played a video package on the titantron, where he relayed the message to Lashley — “run.” Lashley called out Wyatt, only to be attacked by Uncle Howdy. Lashley hit Uncle Howdy with a spinebuster, and set up for a spear, but the lights went out. When the lights were turned back, Uncle Howdy was gone.

In the main event, Sami Zayn took on Solo Sikoa. Zayn is continuing his mission to dismantle the Bloodline faction. Zayn didn’t get the win on Friday night, as a distraction from Jimmy Uso allowed Sikoa to hit him with his Samoan Spike finishing move. Zayn did, however, escape a post-match attack, hitting Uso with a Helluva Kick and escaping through the crowd.

Now next week, Reigns gave an ultimatum next week — if Jey Uso doesn’t appear, then he will take the blame off Zayn and place it on Jimmy.
