The 147th running of the Belmont Stakes is scheduled for June 6th and once again, a horse is vying for the Triple Crown.

After taking the first two jewels of the Triple Crown, American Pharoah is poised to make history on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes. To do so he’ll have to beat out a relatively small field of eight horses total. Let’s take a look at the horses vying for the white carnations by post position.

1) Mubtaahij

Mubtaahij was sired by Dubawi, trained by Mike de Kock and is ridden by Irad Ortiz. De Kock trains some good horses, but this one really didn’t have an excuse for finishing eighth in the Kentucky Derby after winning the United Emirates Derby. His morning line odds are 10-1.

2) Tale of Verve

Tale of Verve was sired by Tale of Ekati, trained by Dallas Stewart and is ridden by Gary Stevens. Most of the Preakness horses could not handle the sloppy track at Pimilico, but Tale of Verve did well by finishing in second. His morning line odds are 15-1.

3) Madefromlucky

Madefromlucky was sired by Lookin At Lucky, trained by Todd Pletcher and is ridden by Javier Castellano. Pletcher has two entrants in the Belmont, and this one is probably the weaker of the two. He’s faced Pharoah twice and lost badly twice. His morning line odds are 12-1.

4) Frammento

Frammento was sired by Midshipman, trained by Nick Zito and ridden by Mike Smith. Never forget 36-1 shot plodder Birdstone taking the Triple Crown out from under Smarty Jones. Alas, this colt is another long shot, having only won one race in eight starts. His morning line odds are 30-1.

5) American Pharoah

American Pharoah was sired by Pioneerof The Nile, trained by Bob Baffert and is ridden by Victor Espinoza. Fast and consistent, there’s a reason he’s going for the Triple Crown. But can his good luck hold out against 37 years of Triple Crown futility? His morning line odds are 3-5.

6) Frosted

Frosted was sired by Tapit, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and is ridden by Joel Rosario. He rallied in the Derby to finish fourth and is a big stretch-running threat here in the Belmont. His morning line odds are 5-1.

7) Keen Ice

Keen Ice was sired by Curlin, trained by Dale Romans and is ridden by Kent Desormeaux. He was hindered by traffic in the Derby, but accelerated late to grab seventh. Romans tends to have his horses run better than advertised in the Triple Crown races. His morning line odds are 20-1.

8) Materiality

Materiality was sired by Afleet Alex, trained by Todd Pletcher and is ridden by John Velazquez. The Florida Derby winner had a hard trip in the Kentucky Derby. He’s had five weeks off now and is the Pletcher horse to watch here. His morning line odds are 6-1.
