American Pharoah could be given one of the highest honors that any athlete could receive and deservedly so

On Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, we were treated to a truly amazing historical moment in the history of sports, when American Pharoah ran away from the competition on the Belmont Stakes. With the dominating win, the three-year-old thoroughbred became the first horse in 37 years –and 12th overall–  to win the coveted Triple Crown of horse racing.

Of course, since the feat was accomplished, most of the attention from around the sports world has centered on the freakish horse that was able to stun an entire generation, and quite frankly, rightfully so. Whether human or horse, when you can make something happen that hasn’t happened in 37 years, you deserve everything that comes your way.

Well, American Pharoah could be set to receive an honor that every athlete wants to get at some point in their career. According to a report from ADWEEK, the horse’s marketing team has entered talks with General Mills food company to grace the cover of a Wheaties box in the near future. Very few athletes throughout history have had the honor of appearing on the cover of the famous cereal, and Pharoah could very well be next in line.

With all of the attention that has come the way of American Pharoah, negotiating this type of deal makes sense. However, with the position they’re in at the moment, the marketing people for the horse could ask for a lot. Financial terms haven’t been disclosed at this team, but again, when you’re representing an athlete that has made history such as this, the ball in generally in your court at the negotiating table. While it would be a great honor for Pharoah to make it on the box, should an agreement not take place, there will be a lot more endorsements out there.

Still, though, hopefully they come to terms, because it seems only fitting for us to eventually see this.
