College Football Results Against The Spread Week 11

There was a time when reviewing my college football results for the week was one of the highlights. Not this year. It brings forth a sense of dread, and makes me wonder how in the world I can be so wrong. Through ten college football weeks, I am a horrible 234-289 against the spread.

More from College Football Odds

My point bets aren’t doing any better. After coming out 123 points ahead last year, I am down 180 this year. Most would just give up. I didn’t give up back in 2007. I wont give up now. 2007 was my first year picking, and the last time I remember this much chaos in a football season. It is fun to watch, but I am torn because I hate giving bad advice.

Was this week any better? I have my doubts since my Pick Em picks were a total disaster. At this point I will settle for a .500 week, even though I know I need much better to finish anywhere near respectability.

Here are the college football results against the spread for week 11. Winners will be in BOLD. My results will follow.

Just in case you want to follow along, here are the picks:

Eastern Michigan at Ball State(EVEN): HIT! At least I can say I was above .500 at one point this week….

Western Michigan(-21.5) at Kent State: MISS! Kent did a nice job defensively in this game. It was much closer than the score suggests.

Bowling Green at Akron(-9.5): MISS! Burned by Akron again! You can’t do anything more to give away a game than the Zips did in the last four minutes of this one.

Toledo(-6.5) at Northern Illinois: HIT! Logan Woodside’s three second half touchdowns led the Rockets to a come from behind win.

North Carolina(-10.5) at Duke: MISS! The Tarheels had two touchdowns in the first five minutes, and the rout was on……until it wasn’t. The Heels only had two field goals in the second half, and didn’t score in the fourth quarter to snatch defeat from the jaws of the Victory Bell.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Georgia Southern(-8.5): MISS! The suspension of Kevin Ellison ruined this game for the Eagles. They were stuck trying to throw the ball from a triple option offense because of a different skill set at quarterback. Oh, and the defense choked.

Utah(-5.5) at Arizona State: HIT! This was easy money. Maybe I can at least come out ahead on the points end of things.

Boston College at Florida State(-21.5): MISS! The Seminoles will have a whole lot in laundry bills this week. I don’t think they even broke a sweat in this one….

Baylor at Oklahoma(-17.5): HIT! Someone forgot to tell the Sooners that chaos was going to happen this week and they needed to act interested. There was no way they would have covered if Baylor didn’t lose Seth Russell for the season again. This game was close until Russell went out.

Mississippi State at Alabama(-28.5): HIT! Alabama is the only team that has looked consistently dominant all season.

South Carolina at Florida(-11.5): MISS! I should have known better. Jake Bentley still held his own here though. He is going to be a really good one.

Kentucky at Tennessee(-13.5): HIT! I want to personally thank the Wildcats for finishing this one strong. It looked like the Vols were going to cover easily.

Cincinnati at Central Florida(-11.5): HIT! Will Cincinnati really fire Tommy Tuberville? Really? It seems a little extreme considering where the Bearcats have been the last couple of years.

SMU at East Carolina(-6.5): MISS! The injury to Matt Jones turned out to be a blessing. Ben Hicks is showing he can make this team a force to be reckoned with. The Ponies are still a little green, but a bowl berth would help them immensely for next year with an extra month of practice. That seemed like a pipe dream a month ago.

Tulsa at Navy(-1.5): MISS! It was a great game, and the logic was sound. Sometimes the halves are just unkind.

Iowa State(-10.5) at Kansas: MISS! Uh oh…..Kansas has a quarterback. It wont do them much good this year. They still wont win another game. But next year, look out! Oh, and Kansas had one of the best trick plays you will ever see. That counts for something, right?

West Virginia at Texas(-1.5): HIT! You can say this for Texas: they aren’t giving anything easy. They are at least fighting to get to a bowl. They need to, because I think Strong is out if they fail to win at least one of the last two games.

Rutgers at Michigan State(-14.5): MISS! I should have known better here as well, but I didn’t think Sparty was playing that much better.

Penn State(-6.5) at Indiana: HIT! Penn State keeps rolling right along. They have a legitimate shot at the playoff if they beat Michigan.

Northwestern(-13.5) at Purdue: HIT! This was brutal. Does anyone want to play Northwestern right now?

North Carolina State(-4.5) at Syracuse: HIT! This NC State offense is quietly putting up some good numbers.

Miami(OH)(-10.5) at Buffalo: HIT! Whew! This may be the first time I have hit four right in a row all season!

Rice at Charlotte(-10.5): MISS! Figures…..

Miami(FL)(-10.5) at Virginia: MISS! Way to show some heart, Virginia. They didn’t show up in the second half.

Louisiana-Monroe at Georgia State(-12.5): HIT! I don’t bet much on Sun Belt games because anything can happen, but I should have here. This line was blatantly off.

New Mexico State at Arkansas State(-19.5): MISS! Snakebitten by another damn half. The Red Wolves failed to score in the fourth quarter. I am teetering close to that elusive .500 week. The three half-point losses are going to hurt.

Auburn(-9.5) at Georgia: MISS! Remember that Sean White guy I told you about? He was 6-20 for 27 yards. That’s it. 27 freaking yards.

Vanderbilt at Missouri(-3.5): MISS! Congrats to Mizzou on their first conference win in 12 tries.

Army at Notre Dame(-13.5): HIT! The Irish are finally starting to play well. It took them long enough. They need to win out to make a bowl game (at least in theory. Two five win teams made bowls last year).

Wyoming(-7.5) at UNLV: MISS! I will concede that no matter the outcome, this was the best game of the weekend. But what in the actual hell got into the Rebels??? It sure wasn’t those helmets.

Pittsburgh at Clemson(-21.5): MISS! I have lost my edge. I made the cardinal mistake of the gambler. I went opposite of the way I would usually bet because of my miserable season. I only made it worse, because at any time in the last eight years, I would have picked Pitt here.

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech(-14.5): MISS! Okay, now I really don’t like the way the Bees are playing.

UTSA at Louisiana Tech(-21.5): HIT! Man, this offense is fun to watch. Hopefully we get to see them in a bowl game against a power five team.

North Texas at Western Kentucky(-28.5): HIT! Okay, I would “settle” for a La Tech vs. WKU rematch. They put up 107 combined points the first time around.

Southern Mississippi at Old Dominion(-2.5): HIT! Well, when you turn the ball over five times, you probably aren’t going to win. It’s the same in CUSA as it is in the SEC.

Appalachian State at Troy(-1.5): MISS! I was right about one thing. It was a great game!

Illinois at Wisconsin(-24.5): MISS! Yeah, way to show up after a huge win there guys……

Tulane at Houston(-24.5): HIT! As far as I can tell, the names on the uniforms are the same ones as early in the year for the Cougars, bu the results are nowhere near the same.

Ohio State(-29.5) at Maryland: MISS! What would have happened had that Maryland touchdown held up early on? It may have changed the game. Then again, it may have led to a 52 point loss instead of a 59 point loss….

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State(-13.5): HIT! I should have put more on this. Tech made a spirited comeback, but it failed on a missed extra point with less than two minutes left.

Idaho(-7.5) at Texas State: HIT! Did I say two scores? I meant five…..

Stanford(-2.5) at Oregon: MISS! I underestimated just how bad Oregon is this year. They don’t have anyone capable of running the system on offense, and their defensive system is outscoring the opponent. That doesn’t work this year.

UTEP at Florida Atlantic(-3.5): MISS! The Owls definitely put the F and the U in FAU. On the bright side, I wasn’t wrong about Aaron Jones. He ran for 229 yards…..

Boise State(-18.5) at Hawaii: MISS! Figures again….

Middle Tennessee State(-8.5) at Marshall: MISS! Good freaking grief! Rub it in, why don’t you?

Wake Forest at Louisville(-34.5): MISS! Perhaps if Louisville had decided to start trying with five minutes left instead of four, they would have covered this. The Cardinals scored 21 points in the last four minutes.

LSU(-6.5) at Arkansas: HIT! This just reiterates how dominant Alabama is this year. LSU could very well be the second best team, but you would never know it watching how they played against the Tide.

South Florida(-3.5) at Memphis: HIT! What a goal line stand by the Bulls to end this one. You would think they Memphis would try to throw to someone that isn’t covered by the guy that broke up the first three passes, right?

Minnesota at Nebraska(-6.5): MISS! I am more surprised that Nebraska was able to hang on after Armstrong left than anything else.

Mississippi at Texas A&M(-9.5): MISS! Well, this was the proper time to burn a redshirt when said redshirt orchestrates 23 fourth quarter points to knock off a top ten team on the road. The Aggies dominated this game for 45 minutes.

USC at Washington(-7.5): MISS! The Huskies did a great job of coming back, but they got down too far too early.

Michigan(-21.5) at Iowa: MISS! The loss of Wilton Speight wasn’t the reason behind this. It didn’t help, but Michigan wasn’t playing well before he got hurt. Their inability to run the ball against what has largely been a poor run defense was what did the Wolverines in.

Oregon State at UCLA(-11.5): HIT! The pick six with just under three minutes left saved me.

Colorado(-16.5) at Arizona: HIT! Colorado is going to be one of those teams that no one is lining up to play. Sefo Liufau would have beaten Michigan if he could have stayed in that game. He throws some really nice passes. I saw him drop them right into the receiver’s arms without them having to turn around and look back for the ball. They only had to look up.

Colorado State at Air Force(-5.5): MISS! Well….it was an interesting game, at least.

New Mexico at Utah State(EVEN): HIT! I thought for sure I had this wrong when the Lobos fell behind 14-0. The chaos of the last play was the perfect end to a game where even the oddsmakers couldn’t decide who should win.

San Diego State(-23.5) at Nevada: HIT! Rashaad Penny is already getting a head start on trying to break all of Donnel Pumphrey’s records. Penny ran for 208 yards on just ten carries!

California at Washington State(-14.5): HIT! At least I finished the week strong. Did I hit .500 though?

A 27-31 week doesn’t look so bad with all of the upsets that we saw last week. When you add it to the season of dismay, it still looks embarrassing. I sit at 261-320 on the season. I have never missed 400 picks in a season before. It’s going to be nearly impossible to avoid it this year.

Since I was so close to .500 this week, did I gain any ground on the points? That would be a little something for yet another subpar week. The season totals are in parentheses.

1. 4-7 (48-55) -7
2. 9-10 (101-101) 0
3. 9-8 (64-93) -117
4. 5-4 (36-37) -4
5. 0-2 (12-24) -60

I only lost eight points this week. Once again, it was my inability to pick crucial five point games right that was my undoing. I am now at -188 on the season, and -55 over my two years of doing this. I am no longer playing with house money, and I am picking like it. It really is starting to mess with my head!
