DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 5

There are still 13 games in the main DraftKings tournament tonight. Four games are threatened by rain right now. Make sure to follow us on Twitter as we will keep you updated with the weather and any lineup changes!

More from DFS

The money line last night was way down to 105.4 DraftKings points. That had a lot to do with the postponement of the Braves-Mets game in the fourth inning. I had Jaime Garcia in my Matt Andriese/Baltimore stack, which kept that out of the money. The other one placed, no thanks to the pitchers. It was all on Manny Machado and Ben Gamel.

The winning lineup was predictably down to 175.9. Matt Andriese and Ariel Miranda provided a great foundation while the Orioles/Mariners stack vaulted him to victory.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Mar 14, 2017; Fort Myers, FL, USA; Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (15) at bat against the Toronto Blue Jays at JetBlue Park. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

P: Stephen Strasburg ($10,600): Strasburg has absolutely dominated this incarnation of the Phillies. Actually, he has dominated all Phillies. He has a career 1.64 ERA in seven starts at Citizens Bank Park. At any rate, these Phillies are only hitting .195 off of him in 113 at bats with only one homer and seven runs to go with an incredible 42 strikeouts. 30 DraftKings points could be underestimating what Strasburg could do tonight.

P: Lance Lynn ($7,800): The Braves love their new home, so starting Lynn there is a little bit of a risk. However, the Braves are only hitting .237 against Lynn in 93 at bats with only four extra base hits (all doubles) and eight runs while striking out 26 times. I also like the fact that his teammates get to tee off on Mike Foltynewicz. This is a good situation for Lynn, and there is plenty of strikeout potential here.

C: Geovany Soto ($2,800): Soto is 4-9 with three walks, two doubles, a run scored, and three RBI against Wade Miley in his career. Miley has allowed a .362 average to the White Sox. If I trusted this offense at all, I would put a stack together.

1B: Kendrys Morales ($3,300): Morales has absolutely destroyed Chris Archer in his career. Morales is 13-22(.591) with a walk, four doubles, two homers, four runs scored, and six RBI against Archer. Actually, despite the .216 average that the Jays have against Archer, they have hit nine homers off of him and scored 28 runs in 218 at bats. There is potential here, but there is risk involved since Archer has the potential to shut them out as well.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,100): The current Red Sox have hit five home runs against Phil Hughes. Dustin Pedroia has all of them. He is 16-41(.390) with a stellar .520 wOBA against Hughes with two walks, three doubles, five homers, ten runs scored, and an impressive 15 RBI. Pedroia deserves a spot in any lineup tonight. Stacking Red Sox may be a bit off though. The rest of the team only has six RBI against Hughes.

3B: Kyle Seager ($3,700): Seager is one of the few that has actually got the better of Yu Darvish. He is 9-27 with four walks, four doubles, three runs scored, and an impressive eight RBI against the Japanese import. The Mariners only have nine total RBI against Darvish, so Seager is the one man gang against Darvish.

SS: Asdrubal Cabrera ($3,600): Cabrera is 6-13(.462) with a walk, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI off of Tom Koehler. Cabrera has enough power to go deep off of the struggling Koehler.

OF: Jay Bruce ($4,200): The Mets are a little beat up right now, but they still have some power in here. Jay Bruce is a big part of that. He is 4-8 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI against Tom Koehler. There could be a lot of runs involved in this one. The Mets are hitting .329 off of Koehler. the Marlins are hitting .306 against Rafael Montero. Stack away!

OF: Mike Trout ($5,300): Trout sat out with a tender hamstring last night. If he is able to play tonight, I want Trout in there. He is 14-38(.368) with six walks, two solo homers and six runs scored off of Dallas Keuchel. The caveat here is that Keuchel is off to a brilliant start. Stay tuned to our Twitter feed. I may change this pick depending on Trout’s status.

OF: Mark Trumbo($4,500): Trumbo is 3-10 with two walks and two solo home runs off of Miguel Gonzalez so far. Gonzalez has had a good start to the season with a 3-1 record and 3.27 ERA. That 1.33 WHIP could be a harbinger of things to come. The Orioles put up eight runs last night. Can they hit Gonzalez? If they do, I’m betting Trumbo is involved.

Next: DraftKings Lineup 2

DraftKings
May 3, 2017; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier (2) rounds second base on a throwing error by Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Kendall Graveman (49) during the first inning at Target Field. Mandatory Credit: Jordan Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

P: Michael Fulmer ($8,000): The current A’s are just 2-16 against Fulmer with three strikeouts and one run. It’s not much to go on, but he was brilliant in his only start at the spacious Coliseum. He didn’t allow a run in 7.2 innings pitched. Fulmer definitely got a nice upgrade here instead of starting against Cleveland. He seems a bit underpriced here.

More from FanSided

P: Jesse Chavez ($6,500): Chavez has actually pitched well against the Astros. They are only hitting .239 off of Chavez in 92 at bats with one homer and only six runs scored. They also have 25 strikeouts, which is a pretty high total. The Astros may get to him a couple of times, but the strikeouts should more than make up for that. It’s not often that you find this kind of strikeout potential this cheap.

C: Yasmani Grandal ($3,400): Grandal is only 2-9 off of Jhoulys Chacin, but he does have a walk and a solo home run. Chacin is worth stacking against most of the time, but with a mostly struggling Dodgers offense in Petco Park, there are better stacks to be had.

1B: Edwin Encarnacion ($4,400): Encarnacion is 7-18(.389) with a walk, a double, three homers, five runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Jason Hammel. He is off to a somewhat slow start in Cleveland, but maybe facing Hammel can get him going.

2B: Brian Dozier ($4,400): Dozier is 4-6 with two walks, two solo homers, and three runs scored against Eduardo Rodriguez. The Twins are hitting .364 against Rodriguez so far, but he has a lot of strikeout potential. He is averaging one per inning against the Twins.

3B: Evan Longoria ($4,000): Longoria is 7-23(.304) with a walk, two doubles, two homers, five runs scored, and five RBI against Francisco Liriano in his career. The Rays have mostly struggled against lefties this year, but I’m playing this hoping for an extra base hit or two. I don’t expect miracles.

SS: Trevor Story ($4,800): Story is 5-12(.417) with a walk, a double, three homers, four runs scored, and seven RBI against Zack Greinke. Greinke has struggled against the Rockies, particularly as Coors Field. He has a 4.26 career ERA there.

OF: A.J. Pollock ($5,200): Pollock has never faced German Marquez. Like that matters. It’s Coors Field. Pollock is hitting .358 with five homers and 13 RBI in 109 career at bats in Coors. I want exposure to this game. You should too!

OF: Andrew McCutchen ($4,300): McCutchen is starting to heat up, and the Pirates need him with Starling Marte out. He is 6-18 with five walks, two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI against Jimmy Nelson. This is a game that could go either way. Chad Kuhl and Jimmy Nelson has both pitched well, and been blown up. I want a little exposure to this, but I’m not sold enough for a stack.

OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($5,000): CarGo left the game in the ninth yesterday, but the team insists that it was precautionary measures only. I sure hope so. Gonzalez is 13-36(361) with three walks, a double, a triple, four homers, five runs scored, a steal, and six RBI in his career against Greinke. I want him in my lineup tonight!
