DraftKings MLB Picks For June 23

We have a full 15 game slate tonight with plenty of good pitching options out there. Is this a night to fade the aces and go cheap to pay for bats? Let’s see what the stats say!

More from DFS

The money line was down a touch again to 119.9 DraftKings points. My Mariners stack failed because I had the wrong Mariners. The Yankees stack was still in the mix, but ultimately failed because of the poor outing from Luis Severino.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 238.85 points, which was 20.65 points ahead of second place! Jake Arrieta and Steven Matz gave solid performances, but it was the huge offensive nights from Buster Posey, Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, and Robinson Cano that allowed him to blow away the field.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 13, 2017; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen (22) circles the bases on a solo home run against the Colorado Rockies during the fourth inning at PNC Park. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Stephen Strasburg ($11,700): Yes, I realize that the Reds have slugged four homers against Strasburg in only 36 at bats, but they are only hitting .194 and have struck out ten times. The strikeout potential leaves Strasburg as one of the better pitchers on the board, and should mitigate any damage that the Reds do via the long ball. They have got little else off of him.

P: Ty Blach ($5,700): The Mets are awful against left handed pitching, even with Yoenis Cespedes back. The Mets have a league worst .284 wOBA against left handers this year. Blach’s numbers don’t look so great on the surface, but he does have a 3.02 ERA in nine home games (six starts). He wont rack up the strikeouts, but he should be able to keep the Mets at bay long enough to earn a quality start. That is very good at his price range.

C: Manny Pina ($3,400): I don’t really trust Mike Foltynewicz at SunTrust Park despite his solid 3.86 ERA. The Brewers are a dangerous team, but they are all or nothing. Using Pina is my way of staying neutral without committing large chunks of salary to Eric Thames or Travis Shaw.

1B: Logan Morrison ($4,700): Morrison is 5-9 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Ubaldo JImenez. He has even stolen a base! Ubaldo was just as bad in the bullpen as he was as a starter, so load up on Rays tonight if you can afford them!

2B: Jonathan Schoop ($4,300): My most accounts, Chris Archer is right up there with the aces. However, the Orioles are hitting .264 against him in 144 at bats. Schoop is 6-19(.316) with three solo homers in his career against Archer. Most of the Orioles are cold right now, but with this kind of past history, I will take a shot with one of them.

3B: Wilmer Flores ($2,600): Flores is worth a cheap shot, even against my pitcher. He is hitting .288 against left handed pitching this year with two homers in 52 at bats. I’m not naïve enough to believe that Blach will shut the Mets out. I’m just hoping the Flores is the one that does the bulk of the (hopefully) little damage done.

SS: Jordy Mercer ($3,600): Wainwright has been nearly as bad in his last three starts as he was early in the year. That comes at a bad time for the Cardinals because the Pirates are finally starting to score some runs. There is a caveat though since Wainwright has a nice 2.88 ERA at home. However, Mercer is 6-23(.261) with two walks, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI against Wainwright. I will trust the Pirates bats more than Wainwright right now.

OF: Bryce Harper ($5,500): Luis Castillo will make his major league debut tonight. I will pay up for Harper because I’m pretty sure that he will find some way to welcome him to the big leagues.

OF: Andrew McCutchen ($4,500): McCutchen is on a tear right now, averaging nearly 14 DraftKings points per game over the last 11 games. He is also hitting .402 with eight homers and 23 RBI in June. McCutchen has also abused Adam Wainwright in his career. He is 17-57(.298) with two walks, six doubles, a triple, two homers, nine runs scored, and eight RBI against the former ace of the Cardinals. This looks like a great matchup for McCutchen.

OF: Kole Calhoun ($3,900): The Angels are looking good after taking two of three in the Bronx. Perhaps the most surprising is what they did to Luis Severino last night. Rick Porcello is nowhere near Cy Young form, and Calhoun is 6-12 with a walk, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against him. Calhoun looks super cheap for an Angels team that could rack up some more runs tonight.

Jun 18, 2017; Oakland, CA, USA; New York Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner (11) hits a ball for a ground out against the Oakland Athletics in the seventh inning at Oakland Coliseum. The Athletics won 4-3. Mandatory Credit: Andrew Villa-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Alex Wood ($9,600): Wood’s numbers against the Rockies don’t look great. They are hitting .239 with four homers and 14 RBI in just 92 at bats. However, most of that damage was done at Coors Field. Wood has a 8.18 ERA in five career starts at Coors. He could dominate the Rockies at sea level. Wood has been brilliant everywhere this year, posting a 1.90 ERA with nearly identical home/road splits. He also has 72 strikeouts in just 61.2 innings pitched. Oh, and he shute out the Rockies for six innings while striking out ten earlier this year at Chavez Ravine.

More from FanSided

P: Michael Fulmer ($8,300): Fulmer has never faced the Padres, but this is a team that made Mike Montgomery look like an ace in Wrigley Field. Nothing against Montgomery, but is was only his third start of the year after pitching out of the bullpen for a year and a half. Fulmer could look like a Cy Young candidate in this one!

C: Mike Zunino ($3,700): I didn’t really commit to a stack tonight, but I have a couple of Mariners because of the opponent. Joe Musgrove has a 5.09 ERA on the season and has given up 11 homers in 12 starts. Until someone cools Zunino off, he is a lock in my lineups.

1B: Justin Bour ($4,500): Bour is only 2-6 in his career against John Lackey, but both of those hits are home runs and he has driven in three. Lackey has struggled this year with an ERA just below 5, and it isn’t all because of Wrigley. His ERA is still pretty bad at 4.83 on the road. I want at least some exposure to Lackey tonight.

2B: Scooter Gennett ($3,600): Strasburg is an elite pitcher, but for some reason, Gennett has had little trouble hitting him in his career. Gennett is 2-5 with a walk, two homers, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Strasburg. I will take advantage of the lower price on the chance that he takes him deep again.

3B: Jose Ramirez ($5,100): Ramirez is 2-3 with a double already against Adalberto Mejia. Not that I really need a reason to use Ramirez right now, even though the bum only had one hit last night. That snapped a streak of eight straight multi-hit games, but at least he was able to extend his hitting streak. Going up against a questionable lefty and arguably the worst bullpen in the league means Ramirez is pretty much a lock for some points tonight.

SS: Freddy Galvis ($2,700): Arizona bats are way too expensive for my taste in pitchers tonight, and Mark Leiter, Jr. definitely has pedigree on his side. Instead, I will take a cheap Phillies right hander on the off chance that he can get to Patrick Corbin. Corbin’s ERA is a fat 5.19, but is a respectable 3.45 in eight home starts. Galvis has put up 24 DraftKings points in the last five games, so maybe he is starting to come around this year. At a bargain price against a guy with massive platoon splits like Corbin, it’s worth finding out.

OF: Brett Gardner ($4,200): Gardner is 5-11 with four solo homers in his career against Yu Darvish. This matchup has star power with Darvish facing off with Masahiro Tanaka, but it could be a high scoring game. Tanaka has had issues with the long ball this year, and the Yankees are mashers at home. I wouldn’t use either pitcher, but stacking either offense could work.

OF: Mitch Haniger ($4,100): Hey, I’ve got stats to back this one up too besides stating the obvious struggles of Joe Musgrove. Haniger is 3-4 with two walks, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI already against Musgrove. He continues to hit high in the order, and has picked up where he left off before lengthy DL stint. If it wasn’t for some guy named Aaron on the east coast, Haniger would be in consideration for AL Rookie of the Year.

OF: Ender Inciarte ($4,100): Jimmy Nelson seems to have turned a corner this year, but he has never turned this corner. The one that leads to SunTrust Park. The Braves beat him up in Milwaukee earlier this year, and he still has an unsightly 4.67 ERA on the road. Use Braves lefties like you normally would. There are too many good options at first base for me to deploy Matt Adams, but I am all over Inciarte. Inciarte is 5-10 with a walk, three doubles, a solo homer, and three runs scored against Nelson in his career.
