DraftKings MLB Picks For August 8
We only have seven games tonight, but that doesn’t mean there is a lack of talent. We have one ace on DraftKings, and a couple that could be aces. Where do we stack without a game in Coors Field? Let’s check out some stats! There are some stack-worthy options out there.

The money line was down a bit to 117.35 tonight. My Trevor Williams/Jake Arrieta lineup with the Reds stack placed. The other one failed largely because Brent Suter did.
The winning lineup was under 200 at 198.7. He gambled with Dylan Bundy with Williams. He also had Jose Pirela, Votto, Machado, and Mike Trout against his pitcher. That is the second time this week we have seen that, so the whole not using a hitter against your pitcher is largely a myth.
These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Next: DraftKings Lineup 1

P: Chris Sale ($12,600): Sale got knocked around by Cleveland in his last start, so that may keep his ownership down some. It shouldn’t. Even with that blowup, Sale is still averaging a cool 30 DraftKings points per game over his last ten starts. He also owns a 2.11 ERA in 38.1 career innings at Tropicana Field. Sale is primed to get back on track in a big way today. We all know how much the Rays struggle against left handed pitching. Considering how well Sale has pitched, I just can’t justify fading him for Dallas Keuchel, even against the lowly White Sox.
P: Zach Godley ($7,600): I know Godley is facing the Dodgers, but he has pitched like a God against them. The Dodgers are hitting just .122 in 41 at bats with only one run and 11 strikeouts. Godley hasn’t struggled in his home park like some of his teammates since he isn’t really a fly ball pitcher. Godley is way too cheap for what he has done against the Dodgers. I trust him more than any of the others in this price range. If you can’t afford Wacha, Godley is the way to go.
C: Jason Castro ($2,500): Castro is 5-12 with two doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Matt Garza. The Twins offense did pretty well against rookie lefty Brent Suter last night. I would think they can knock around the former Twin as well.
1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,800): SunTrust Park doesn’t just help out the opponents power numbers. It does the same for the home team. Mark Leiter has never faced Freeman before, but considering Freeman is hitting .316 with seven homers and 17 RBI in only 95 at bats in his new home, Leiter could have some problems getting him out.
2B: Cesar Hernandez ($4,000): Julio Teheran has struggled to a 6.91 ERA in 11 home starts this year. SunTrust Park only amplifies his struggles against left handed hitters since it caters to left handed power. The Phillies Teheran earlier this year, and seem poised to do it again. All Phillies left handed hitters are in play tonight, and all of them are priced to buy. Hernandez is the most expensive one!
3B: Eugenio Suarez ($3,800): Suarez has hit 15 of his 18 home runs in Great American Ballpark this season. Tonight he is back there again against Luis Perdomo. While Perdomo doesn’t allow a lot of homers, he has allowed six of the seven on the season in his past eight starts.
SS: Freddy Galvis ($3,700): Galvis is 10-24(.417) with three walks, four steals, a double, a triple, two runs scored, and a RBI in his career against Julio Teheran. As Galvis showed last year, he does have some pop in his bat, so he could be a sleeper choice for a homer off of Teheran.
OF: Chrisian Yelich ($3,900): Yelich winds up in this space again. It may just be easier to tell you to play him against the Nationals. He is hitting .288 with eight homers and 22 RBI in 62 games against them. As for A.J. Cole, Yelich is 3-4 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI in his career against him. Cole got roughed up in his last start, which was against this same team in South Florida. There is a solid chance that the Marlins knock him around again.
OF: Nick Williams ($3,800): Williams continues to hit major league pitching with few issues. He is hitting .289 with five homers and 22 RBI in his first 30 games in The Show. His ownership may even be down a little since he went hitless in the last three games of the series in Coors Field, but the Rockies don’t have Teheran pitching for them. He is the fastest way to get a lefty out of a minor slump.
OF: Odubel Herrera ($3,200): Herrera’s price is just baffling to me. He was priced at $4,700-$4,900 for the weekend series at Coors Field. A trip back to sea level isn’t going to hurt him that much. It likely has something to do with his 4-21 career mark against Teheran, but I simply can’t pass him up at this price.
Next: DraftKings Lineup 2

P: Corey Kluber ($12,400): I don’t even care who Kluber is matched up with at this point. He has averaged 35.5 DraftKings points per game over his last ten starts. With Kershaw injured, that means Kluber is likely the most consistently dominant starter on the board now. He has a 1.70 ERA in that span with 113 strikeouts in just 74.1 innings pitched. For the record, Scherzer has 87 strikeouts in 67 innings over his last ten games. and he was still more expensive last night. If it is at all possible for a guy at this price to be a bargain, Kluber could be it.

P: Parker Bridwell ($6,700): Bridwell has been a nice surprise for the Angels this year, posting a 3.20 ERA in nine starts. He doesn’t strike out a lot of batters, and he does give up around a homer per start, but Baltimore takes a huge park hit heading out west. And Bridwell is a former Orioles farmhand, so you know he wants to show off in this one.
C: Wilson Ramos ($2,500): This is a punt play, sure, but Ramos is 2-3 with a double, a homer, and three RBI in his career against Chris Sale. Those are pretty good past stats for a punt!
1B: Joey Gallo ($4,300): Mets rookie Chris Flexen has only lasted six innings total in his first two major league starts. He has an unsightly 12.00 ERA and 3.00 WHIP. Flexen only allowed one homer in each of those starts. Chances are that if he allows one tonight, it will be to Gallo, who pounds right handed pitching.
2B: Rougned Odor ($3,500): Odor has four homers in the last ten games and has driven in nine. There is a strong chance that the Rangers will chase Flexen early once again. The good news is that the Mets bullpen is nothing to write home about either. All Rangers are a strong play tonight, and most of them are priced cheap enough to still grab an ace.
3B: Ryon Healy ($3,400): Healy is 2-4 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Ariel Miranda so far. Miranda has had issues with the long ball lately. He has surrendered 27 round trippers in 22 starts with 17 of those coming in the last ten games. Oakland doesn’t have a ton of power, but they have ample right handed hitters that can put a charge into one. All Oakland righties are in play tonight.
SS: Marcus Semien ($3,500): Semien has gone largely unnoticed since he missed half of Apri and all of May and June with an injury. He is starting to round back into form, and is still carrying a fairly low price tag at a shallow position. I will take my chances will all of the homers that Miranda has been giving up lately.
OF: Mike Trout ($5,600):Â The Angels offense continues to struggle, but not Trout. He is hitting .395 with four homers, ten RBI, and a steal over his last ten games. Trout is also 3-6 with three walks, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Jeremy Hellickson. Trout should once again be worth the elevated price tonight.
OF: Khris Davis ($4,100): Davis is priced to buy tonight against Miranda. He hit his first homer in the last ten games on Sunday. Davis is about as streaky as they come. A lot of his homes come in bunches. He should be able to get one against Miranda tonight.
OF: Shin-soo Choo ($3,900): What would a Rangers stack be without the leadoff hitter? Incomplete, that’s what. Choo has not driven in a run over his last ten games, but he has still ben on base 15 times, so its hard to call it a slump. I would bet he drives in at least one tonight.
