DraftKings MLB Picks For June 13

We have 14 games in the main DraftKings tournament tonight with the only game missing being a matinee between the Brewers and Cardinals in St Louis. For good measure, DraftKings also took out the night game of said doubleheader for some odd reason. We have a couple of aces in seemingly good matchups, but they are on the road. Where can we go cheap to afford them? Should we try to afford them? Let’s take a look!

More from DraftKings

A huge offensive night assured that the money line was going to be very high last night. It was all the way up at 140.8. Both of my lineups missed because I didn’t have any Mariners, Braves, or Nationals hitters or Asdrubal Cabrera.

The winning lineup was actually down a bit to 226.4. He got a nice start from Jameson Taillon and Jacob deGrom to go with huge offensive numbers across the board. Kyle Seager‘s 12 was the lowest point total on his roster.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 8, 2017; Chicago, IL, USA; Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood (32) throws the ball against the Chicago Cubs during the first inning at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Clayton Kershaw ($12,900): Only two current Indians have ever faced Clayton Kershaw. Austin Jackson and Edwin Encarnacion are a combined 0-7 with two strikeouts. Cleveland is one of six stadiums that Kershaw has never pitched in, but I’m not worried. Why? Because he is the best pitcher of this generation, and the best many of us have ever seen or will see. You want stats? Kershaw has a 2.22 road ERA since the start of 2013. That is dominance, folks.

P: Tyler Chatwood ($7,700): Do you know who has the second best road ERA in that span? It’s none other than Chatwood, who has posted a 2.53 ERA in seven road starts this season and a 2.41 mark since the start of 2013. The Pirates are an impressive 8-21 off of him, but they have only scored one run in that time while striking out four times. That said, Chatwood game up just one run in six innings in his only career start at PNC Park. He looks very safe again tonight.

C: Jason Castro ($3,500): Castro hit a solo homer against Christian Bergman in two at bats in Seattle. That’s good enough for me to see if he can do it again at home!

1B: Logan Morrison ($4,300): Morrison is 5-16(.312) with a double, a triple, two homers, four runs scored, a steal, and seven RBI in his career against Marco Estrada. Most of those numbers were put up even before his power surge this year. He could be a steal at this price today!

2B: Jose Pirela ($3,100): Pirela has been on fire since being called up from AAA El Paso. He has racked up 79 DraftKings points in his first six major league games, and is now leading off for San Diego. His price is coming up, but it still isn’t where it should be for what he is doing at the plate. Pirela is a great punt play while he is still producing.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,300): Escobar is 14-41(.341) with three walks, five doubles, two homers, five runs scored, and ten RBI in his career against CC Sabathia. He also has the added bonus of batting cleanup in the Angels lineup against left handed pitchers, making him a terrific bargain at this price. He will likely have a high ownership percentage, but I can’t pass this up.

SS: Erick Aybar ($2,900): Aybar is 16-36(.444) with a walk, three doubles, two triples, six runs scored, two steals, and three RBI in his career against Scott Feldman. He is no longer situated near the top of the Padres order, but considering his history against Feldman, Aybar should be in the lineup somewhere. That makes him a good punt option for this price.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($4,500): Dickerson is 5-14(.357) with two walks, a homer, four runs scored, a steal, and three RBI in his career against Estrada. The Rays have managed to get plenty of runs off of Estrada (19 in 103 at bats) despite a .223 average. Dickerson should be in position to score a couple of runs tonight.

OF: Justin Upton ($4,300): Upton is one of the few guys in Detroit that has had success against Zack Greinke since he left the Royals. He is 10-27(.370) with four walks, two doubles, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI against Greinke in his career covering his stops in San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit. I will take that kind of history.

OF: Mallex Smith ($3,500): Say hello to the Rays’ new leadoff hitter. Smith will take over for Kevin Kiermaier since he landed on the DL. He had a great opening weekend on the job, swiping four bases, picking up eight hits, a homer, and three RBI. Smith could be a bargain at this price. Use him before the adjustment hits!

DraftKings
Jun 7, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Greinke (21) pitches against the San Diego Padres during the second inning at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Zack Greinke ($12,200): Greinke’s numbers against Detroit are not that great. He used to face them a lot when he was in the AL Central. Dig a little deeper though and we will see that Greinke had a 3.82 ERA in seven seasons with the Royals. His ERA since then is at 3.06. He also owns a 2.72 career ERA at Comerica Park in 16 career appearances (14 starts). Most of the damage done was in Kansas City, so Greinke looks like a really solid option tonight since he is in a better pitcher’s park than Kershaw is.

More from FanSided

P: Buck Farmer ($6,900): Farmer has not given up a run in 13 innings over two major league starts this year. That will likely change tonight, but you can’t argue with the results that he has so far. I expect a pitcher’s duel at Comerica tonight, so I have no issues using both pitchers in that game. Farmer has a lot of strikeout upside for a pitcher this cheap, so I will punt the chance at a win and pay for offense.

C: Martin Maldonado ($2,800): Maldonado is no longer being asked to hit in the middle of the order, and he has cooled off some, but right handers have 17 of the 18 extra base hits Sabathia has allowed this year. Maldonado should see at least one at bat with runners on base tonight, giving him a solid chance for double digit DraftKings points.

1B: Mitch Moreland ($4,600): Ben Lively has been a real shot in the arm for the Phillies this year, posting a 2.57 ERA in his first two starts. This is a bit different though. Fenway is a better hitter’s park than even his home park, and he is facing off against David Price. Moreland’s price has gone up lately because of where he plays and who he has hitting around him. He is likely worth it here tonight.

2B: Wilmer Flores ($3,100): Flores is way too cheap considering his career against Jon Lester. Flores is 5-10 with a walk, three homers, and four RBI against Lester in his career. When you factor in Lester’s 8.64 ERA in two career starts at Citi Field, not only am I fading Lester, I am strongly considering a Mets stack.

3B: Nolan Arenado ($4,700): Arenado is 5-8 with two homers and three RBI in his career against Gerrit Cole. Arenado and the rest of the Rockies offense take a huge park hit here, but Cole is still struggling this year as shown by his 4.83. It is even on the high side at 3.93 at home. Don’t avoid Rockies just because of PNC Park. There are runs to be had here.

SS: Andrelton Simmons ($3,900): Simmons is 3-6 with a double in his career against CC Sabathia. He has been moved out of the leadoff spot with the return of Cameron Maybin, but Simmons is still in the middle of this lineup that could be a sneaky source of runs against Sabathia. He has struggled against right handed hitters this year, and the Angels have a lot of them in their lineup. All of them are in play tonight.

OF: Andrew Benintendi ($4,800): Benintendi has four homers since June 4th, and has busted out of his slump that lasted the entire month of May. I don’t think that Lively will be bad enough to employ a full stack against him, but I want Boston’s two best left handed hitters in my lineup for Lively’s first trip to Fenway.

OF: Matt Adams ($3,500): Matt Adams slugged two homers last night, proving that his power is not just exclusive to SunTrust Park. He is 2-4 with a walk in his career against Joe Ross, but considering Ross’s struggles at the major league level this year, I like Adams’ chances of getting extra bases of some sort tonight. Oh, and he is still way too cheap!

OF: Mark Trumbo ($3,400): Trumbo is also bargain priced for tonight considering his numbers against Derek Holland. Trumbo is 15-47(.319) with four walks, three doubles, five homers, eight runs scored, and 12 RBI in his career against Holland. Look for some big numbers for Trumbo tonight. The wheels are starting to come off of Holland. They could come off fully here.
