(14)Kentucky vs. (12)Penn State(-6.5) at Orlando, FL(5):

Kentucky 9-3, 5-3(t-2nd SEC East)

Wins: vs. Central Michigan(35-20), at Florida(27-16), vs. Murray State(48-10), vs. Mississippi State(28-7), vs. South Carolina(24-10), vs. Vanderbilt(14-7), at Missouri(15-14), vs. Middle Tennessee State(34-23), at Louisville(56-10)

Losses: at Texas A&M(14-20), vs. Georgia(17-34), at Tennessee(7-24)

Record vs. bowl teams: 6-2

Benny Snell still doesn’t get the credit he deserves, though ES(EC)PN is trying their best to rectify that. Snell is one of the best backs around, and carried the Wildcats for stretches this season. After all, Kentucky is the only team besides Alabama to score more than 20 on Mississippi State. Snell has declared for the draft, but he also is going to play in this game and cap off one of the best football seasons in Kentucky in more than half a century.

All due respect to Snell, the strength of this team is actually the defense. Kentucky held 8 of their 12 opponents to 20 points or less.

Penn State 9-3, 6-3(3rd Big Ten(14) East)

Wins: vs. Appalachian State(45-38), at Pittsburgh(51-6), vs. Kent State(63-10), at Illinois(63-24), at Indiana(33-28), vs. Iowa(30-24), vs. Wisconsin(22-10), at Rutgers(20-7), vs. Maryland(38-3)

Losses: vs. Ohio State(26-27), vs. Michigan State(17-21), at Michigan(7-42)

Record vs. bowl teams: 4-3

Trace McSorely was once again the heart of this team. Miles Sanders was brilliant this year, but was often lost in the shadow of Saquon Barkley‘s monster 2017 season. If the Penn State offense has a weakness, it’s the lack of big play receivers.

Penn State’s defense is normally a strong point, but it wasn’t really this year. It’s easy to miss that since Penn State only allowed 20 points in the last three games combined after getting steamrolled by Michigan. In reality, the pass defense was good, but the run defense was 70th out of 129 teams.

Prediction:

Unfortunately for Penn State, they get one of the best backs around in Snell. Much is going to be said about the Kentucky offense being one dimensional behind Terry Wilson. That may be true, but he also runs the ball. If Penn State can’t stop the run, Wilson is actually going to help Kentucky’s cause even more.

This line looks bogus to me. I even like Kentucky straight up.

Pick: Kentucky
