Now this is what we were hoping to see from the MLB Winter Meetings. The Baltimore Orioles dropped one more bombshell for the road, signing Pete Alonso to a five-year, $155 million deal just hours before executives depart from Orlando on Wednesday evening. On the heels of an active Tuesday, in which Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and Edwin Diaz left the Mets in favor of the Dodgers, this offseason is quickly coming into focus.
And the best part: There's still more to come in MLB free agency, including crucial decisions by Cody Bellinger, Kyle Tucker and more star-level talent. Buckle up, baseball fans!
In addition to the Alonso news, we've also gotten plenty of buzz around some of the other biggest names on the market on Wednesday, starting with Tucker. Just about every big market in the sport is reportedly involved in the bidding for free agency's best bat — a list that, yes, includes the Dodgers, who appear to be weighing a short-term offer at a higher AAV. With Alonso and Schwarber now off the board, the market for Tucker (and other names like Cody Bellinger) should shoot into the stratosphere, as teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays and others try to avoid being left empty-handed.
