We have finally made it to the New Year’s Six Bowls! Unfortunately, that means that bowl season is nearing an end. Have your Bowl Mania picks been destroyed by upsets? Luckily you can still find places to play against the spread! I will continue with my picks until the very end. I am doing well in the points system, but I think I am struggling against the spread during bowl time. I am about six games behind, so maybe it gets better!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

Now, on to the Allstate Sugar Bowl!

Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi(-7.5)(4):

Oklahoma State(10-2, 7-2):

Wins: at Central Michigan(24-13), vs. Central Arkansas(32-8), vs. UTSA(69-14), at Texas(30-27), vs. Kansas State(36-34), at West Virginia(33-26), vs. Kansas(58-10), at Texas Tech(70-53), vs. TCU(49-29), at Iowa State(35-31)

Losses: vs. Baylor(35-45), vs. Oklahoma(23-58)

Record vs. bowl teams: 5-2

Mississippi(9-3, 6-2):

Wins: vs. Tennessee-Martin(76-3), vs. Fresno State(73-21), at Alabama(43-37), vs. Vanderbilt(27-16), vs. New Mexico State(52-3), vs. Texas A&M(23-3), at Auburn(27-19), vs. LSU(38-17), at Mississippi State(38-27)

Losses: at Florida(10-38), at Memphis(24-37), vs. Arkansas(52-53)

Record vs. bowl teams: 5-3

Oklahoma State had the road to the conference come through them, but they fell apart, losing the last two games. They also lost to a Baylor team with a third string quarterback finishing them off. The Big 12(10) has not fared well in bowls so far, with Kansas State, TCU, and West Virginia yet to play. Oklahoma and Texas Tech were exposed, while Baylor used a good old fashioned high school offense to take out North Carolina. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Baylor were the only Big 12 team to win a bowl with what I’ve seen so far.

Mississippi took down the mighty Alabama in week three, but all was for naught when they were dismantled by Florida a couple of weeks later. What that means is Ole Miss can be had by a really good defense. I’m just not sure. The supposed best defense in the Big 12 had 58 hung on them by arch  rival Oklahoma in the regular season finale. Usually teams that aren’t playing well entering the bowls don’t play well in the post season. We will see.

On paper, Mississippi is by far the better team here, but that doesn’t always mean much come bowl time. As much as I hate to say it, the Big 12(10) is showing their weaknesses again in bowl season. They went 2-5 last year. It might be even worse this year.

My pick: Mississippi
