Here are the team capsules and pick against the spread for the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl!

We have finally made it to the New Year’s Six Bowls! Unfortunately, that means that bowl season is nearing an end. Have your Bowl Mania picks been destroyed by upsets? Luckily you can still find places to play against the spread! I will continue with my picks until the very end. I am doing well in the points system, but I think I am struggling against the spread during bowl time. I am about six games behind, so maybe it gets better!

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Just in case you missed any:

Georgia had a rough year. It was so rough that it cost Mark Richt his job. Part of the problem was losing Nick Chubb to a knee injury on the first play of the Tennessee game. Sony Michel is a very capable back, but he was better as a compliment to Chubb instead of the feature back. The rest was inconsistency at quarterback. Virginia transfer Grayson Lambert performed well early in the year, and his overall numbers are not bad, but he didn’t play very well down the stretch. That will need to change in the bowl game.

Penn State’s problems centered around the inconsistency and sometimes flat out awful play of quarterback Christian Hackenberg. It’s not all on him. The receivers don’t make plays for him. The Nittany Lions got the run game going with Saquan Barkley, but the passing game is still a mess. All you have to do is look at the losses. When Hackenberg is on, he is solid, but with the inconsistency, he can’t be counted on.

Common sense would say that this would be a defensive struggle because of the offensive struggles. Penn State was shredded by Michigan State and Ohio State. All that proves is that they are no longer the class of the Big Ten(14). The thing that really scares me here is that Georgia has this “disastrous” season, but still won nine games. However, they only played four bowl teams. Am I really supposed to believe that they can just roll over Penn State? Fine, I believe it. The SEC has shown up this year after falling mostly flat in bowl games last year.

My pick: Georgia
